Golf Professional Frazer Baxter Jailed For Stealing £40,000 From Clubs

This is the quite sad story, reported by the Leicester Mercury, of a golf professional and manager named Frazer Baxter who was yesterday jailed for stealing over £40,000 from two clubs at which he worked.

frazer baxterBaxter was sent to prison for three years after pleading guilty to offences including stealing and keeping false accounts at Market Harborough Golf Club and Cosby Golf Clubs in England.

The court heard how, over the course of 21 years, Baxter diverted members subscriptions into his own pocket at Market Harborough.  Investigators even found an excel file on Baxter’s computer which listed all the thefts committed between January 2011 and March 2012.

The thieving pro was finally rumbled after moving to  Cosby Golf Club where member complained his name was not registered with the club even after he paid his fees. An investigation into the cheque was carried out and the bank produced a copy showing the ‘made payable’ section had been changed from Cosby Golf Club to Frazer Baxter

This triggered an investigation which revealed totals of £26,290 stolen from Market Harborough and £14,477 from Cosby Golf Club.

The 46 year olds lawyer pleaded for leniency in the sentencing saying,

My client has lost everything â€" his marriage, his home and his good reputation. He will never be able to pursue this career in the future.

He is being divorced and the matrimonial home is up for sale. There will be funds to pay compensation to the clubs.

In sentencing Baxter for three years, Andrew Lockhart QC told the accused: "This was a very high degree of breach of trust and I have no alternative to impose an immediate custodial sentence."
