2014 Hyundai Tournament Of Champions Betting Preview Tips and Predictions

Dustin Johnson 7/1

dustinEven with Adam Scott in the field I fancy Dustin as my favourite for this week.  The defending champion won in such commanding fashion last year even though the tournament was reduced to 54 holes. I also point to the early season record Johnson has with his two AT&T victories in its February slot.  Apart from his win on the Plantation Course last year he finished T9 in 2011 and 11th in 2009. It’s going to be tough to keep him away from the surf though!

Martin Laird 28/1

Laird had a rotten end to 2013 on Tour missing three cuts in his last five events but qualifies here thanks to his Valero Texas Open win.  The better news for the Scot is that the previous two times he played here he has done very well indeed finishing second to Steve Stricker in 2012 and tied for fourth in 2010.  With plenty of water under the bridge since his last start on the PGA Tour expect a fresh Laird to be high on the leaderboard this week.  I’ll be having a quid each way.

Ryan Moore 22/1

Ryan Moore has the kind of golf swing that makes you think even if he did put the clubs away for six months and then played a Tour event, he would play just as well!  Won the CIMB Classic at the end of October 2013 and continued playing into December, tying seventh at the Nedbank in South Africa.  Tied for sixth at The Plantation Course in 2010 and decent odds to get in the mix again this week.

Zach Johnson 14/1

zachYou may be wondering why the market setters have Zach Johnson out at 14/1 this week considering his form at the end of last season, but when you consider that his best finish in recent years was a T6 in 2009, you see their logic.  Those odds are enough to entice me however, with Zach’s incredible seven top 10’s in his last 10 PGA Tour events including that BMW Championship win and not including that stunning dispatching of Tiger Woods in the World Challenge.

Matt Kuchar 8/1

I would have expected a little better value on Kuchar than 8/1 given his poor, by his standards, end to 2013 but on the flipside he has three top 10’s in the last four stagings (T9 2013, T6 2011,3 2010).  The odds setters will also point to Kuch’s Matchplay win in February last season; he does like to get out of the blocks quickly.
