Freak Storm Wreaks Carnage On 2014 PGA Show Demo Day

CIMG9235What a day it was for Doc and TT (aka Tommy Tanner) at our annual Golfbidder interview blitz at the 2014 PGA Show Demo Day.  One minute blazing Sunshine and application of ridiculous amounts of Tesco’s finest SPFless sunblock, next a full on storm with wind and rain sending men women and Senior Vice Presidents of major golf companies scrambling for cover.

Early in the day, there were no indicators of what lay ahead weather wise.

We pumped out more YouTube gold with the Dabster (Tony Dabbs) from Nike, now a 20 show veteran, who can be found nightly at the bar in the Rosen Centre dispensing advice on Rory’s new driver.  Then we hit up Brian Bazzell who ran us through all 53,876 new TaylorMade drivers for 2014. On then to Brett Porath from Titleist who we always love to chat to.  Then we met The King of Callaway, and drinking game “Flip Cup” Luke Williams,  who’s Big Bertha CG was so far low and back it needed a little trailer. Then we hooked up with super nice guy Chris Voshall from Mizuno, Jon Pergande from Wilson and the Jertybird (Marty Jertson) from Ping.

CIMG9229TT as always was on top of the directorial and filming work and just generally looking like a model despite being crippled by a tiny blister on his foot.

We were a bit nervous heading for our Puma Cobra interviews since our regular contact, Tom Preece, had left and newbie Tom Olsavsky wasn’t made fully aware of our legendary status prior to the interview.  But we shouldn’t have been.  Three videos in with Tom  and knew he was dealing with pros.  Then it all kicked off;  the storm hit.  High winds and torrential rain sent everyone scarpering for cover and TT, me and our new best mate Tom ended up together clinging to a tent hoping it would not become airborne and send us off to a Kevin Costner Man of Steel type death.

Tom OlsavskyThirty minutes later, the Heavens parted and the three of us emerged from our near death experience as best friends forever.  Needless to say, we wont be stuck for a Cobra driver any time soon.

Surveying the damage afterwards, we could see that pretty much every stand had been pummelled.  The Cleveland Srixon stand in particular got a serious beating; it was just simply levelled.  People were running across the range in case more storms were coming.  One man was enjoying pelting balls at the people  until he was gently escorted away.

Oh it was all fun and games while it lasted!   Thanks to everyone who met us and gave us an interview and see you all in the Hall tomorrow.
