Ian Poulter's thoughts on his match this morning...
It’s going to be amazing. Scotland, Stevie G, Gleneagles, wearing the colours… it’s going to be absolutely sensational. I can’t wait to get through that tunnel, give Seve a little wink and get out there on the golf course.

McGinley cutting a very relaxed and calm figure as he has done throughout his stewardship as captain. He's sharing a joke with the various media people gathered around the first tee and has the air of a man who knows he's done all he can to prepare...

The crowds really are incredible here, it's packed up in the grandstands around the first tee but they're also about 20 deep down the first fairway!

David Howell's thoughts on the morning session.

I think we'll win it. Although that's my heart speaking. As we get closer to the start I'm feeling more and more pro-European. I'll be tipping 28-0 at this rate!

Tim Barter is predicting that Europe will win the morning session 2.5-1.5. But, he adds:

If the US rookies (Spieth, Walker, Reed) don't cope, it could be 3-1. But, if it finishes 2-2 then Tom Watson has pulled off a coup. It means he's bloodied all the rookies and has saved Kuchar and Furyk, two players in the top 10 in the world, and also Johnson and Mahan, another strong foursomes pairing, for the afternoon. It's a calculated gamble by Tom.

Sky Sports' Tim Barter making copious notes ahead of today's Fourballs which are just over two hours away.
  • Butch Harmon says Ian Poulter's brilliant Ryder Cup record could be in danger against American rookies Patrick Reed and Jordan Spieth. Poulter, who has won 80% of his matches in Ryder Cup, and Scotland's Stephen Gallacher - another debutant - take on the two US youngsters in the third of today's fourballs. Butch said of Reed and Spieth:

They're young, they're cocky and they both make lots of birdies. They could easily take down Poulter.

  • Paul McGinley admitted he will make mistakes, but he is confident he will make more right decisions than wrong.

I've gone with one rookie in the morning, Tom has gone with three. That might be a genius move by Tom, it might not. My ideas might backfire, but that's what you do as captain - make your decisions, set out your stall, watch what happens and you adapt to what happens. There will be decisions I get wrong, I'm prepared for that. But I'd like to think I'll be able to adjust to that and go forward.
