Specs And Info On Rory McIlroy's New Prototype Nike Vapor Driver
Sponsors have to be satisfied and where better to unveil a new driver than at the Ryder Cup. While the mere mortal might consider it a massive gamble, the Nike Vapor Prototype driver in the hands of the World Number One looks more of a calculated risk.
For his part McIlroy has assured those panicking at the change, saying he has been testing the new Vapor on the range since June whilst gaming the Nike VR_S Covert 2.0 Tour driver to win the Open Championship and the PGA Championship and in the process average over 310 yards off the tee.
Simultaneous to its appearence in Rory's hands at Gleneagles, Nike in the USA had the Vapor Pro (left) and three labeled Vapor Speed (right) listed on the USGA's Conforming Golf Club list.
The new Vapor driver features an adjustable loft and lie hosel, the same âHigh Speed Cavity-Backâ and âFly-Braceâ perimeter weighting as the Covert but with a power channel behind the face.
A more playable retail model rumored to be called the "Vapor Flex" will have a removable weight system similar to the new Callaway Big Bertha Alpha. Altering the weight can move the CG (center of gravity) 2 mm forward or back in the head, changing spin rates.
And yes Rors one is lime green. Stands out doesn't it?
