Winners and losers from FedEx St. Jude Classic week

This past weekend saw a lot of great story lines and we are here to give you the good and the bad of it. Here are our winners and losers from the past week in golf.

Winners

Ben Crane â€" Normally not making a birdie on Sunday means you will not be leaving with a trophy, but Crane had built up his lead at the FedEx St. Jude Classic and held on with that birdie-free 73 on Sunday. It was Crane's first win on the PGA Tour since 2011 and it happened after having missed the cut in five of his previous seven starts on the PGA Tour before heading to TPC Southwind.

Webb Simpson â€" The former U.S. Open winner has had a sneaky good season, racking up six top-10s in just 14 starts including his Sunday 66 that helped vault him to a T-3 at the St. Jude. This was Simpson's first start since the Players Championship, and after an opening 71, he fired three rounds in the 60s and looks to be in good form heading to Pinehurst.

Ian Poulter â€" Poulter came into this week at TPC Southwind without a single top-10 on the PGA Tour in 2014, but his Sunday 64 jumped him 29 spots on the leaderboard to land in a tie for sixth. Poulter is always one of those names mentioned when talking of talents without a major championship on their resume, and I'm sure his 64 on Sunday will only help his confidence heading into Pinehurst.

Losers

Patrick Reed â€" While we should leave this kid alone at this point for his comments about being a top-5 player, it was a third straight missed cut for Reed at the St. Jude and fourth in his last five starts. Maybe the crazier part is after that huge drop-off he's still seventh in the FedEx Cup points ranking.

Phil Mickelson â€" Mr. Roller Coaster himself is back to his old tricks, firing hopeful rounds only to ruin them with that one bad round that has plagued him all season. Mickelson opened with rounds of 67-68-67 at TPC Southwind, and right when it looked like he would card his first top-10 of the year, he shot a final round 72 to drop seven spots on the leaderboard and finish a disappointing T-11.

The withdrawing epidemic â€" I wrote about it earlier this year, but combine the bad weather at the St. Jude with a big tournament the next week and we had 10 PGA Tour players withdraw after the opening round. That is unacceptable.

The media centre at the 2013 PGA Show was buzzing yesterday.  Not because of anything that happened at the show.  God forbid! When I rocked in, several men (and one woman) were gathered around an iphone ogling and sharing  two pics of who they claimed were Holly Sonders naked. Sarah Stirk Nipple Gate: Navy Top Leaves Viewers Disappointed

London: Sky Sports management this morning issued a statement  apologizing to subscribers after Sarah Stirk wore a navy dress live on air.  It is believed up to 60,000 horny golfers were left limp after they tuned in to final round coverage of the Valero Texas Open in the hope of getting a glimpse of the legendary Stirk starter buttons. “I pay my subscription, I’m bloody well entitled to see Sarah’s Wimbledon strawberries” said factory worker Paul Manning 52 from Hereford. “I even missed the ten minute freeview, coz my mate Derek tweeted that Stirk was going into the shot centre for ten minutes at 11pm”. The Sky statement read: We apologize unreservedly for the navy dress Sarah wore during last nights broadcast, through which no nipples were visible. This was due to a wardrobe malfunction. However we do intend to rectify this during our US Masters coverage and assure viewers that plenty of bridge rivets will be on show, both from Sarah and special guest Colin Montgomeri

Holly Sonders Quits Golf Channel After Contract Talks Fail. Moves To Fox.

Tissues at the ready guys as this will come as a shock to you all that Holly Sonders , the female face of the Golf Channel, has quit and reportedly taken a job with Fox Sports. According to  reports Sonders, who appeared regularly on “Morning Drive” since 2011, could not come to an agreement on a new contract deal with the Golf Channel and was quickly snapped up by Fox Sports where she is expected to work on golf and NFL.
