U.S. Open 2014 Live Blog: Follow first round action from Pinehurst
The opening round of the U.S. Open is underway, and with that we will be giving live updates of Pinehurst all Thursday long.
Can Phil Mickelson complete the career Grand Slam? Is this another U.S. Open for Rory McIlroy? Can Jordan Spieth snag a first major?

11:57 AM â" And Phil Mickelson is tied for the lead at the U.S. Open! His birdie on the 5th coupled with the bogey by Kuchar has Lefty atop the leaderboard at 2-under.

11:36 AM â" Potential sleeper of the week at Pinehurst â" Brendon Todd. In his last three starts on the PGA Tour he has gone WIN, T-5 and T-8. He's currently even par on his round after 12 holes.
11:23 AM â" Matt Kuchar is still in the lead at Pinehurst, but the story of the day is the way amateur Matthew Fitzpatrick is playing. Pairing with Justin Rose and Phil Mickelson, Fitzpatrick is 2-under on his round with five holes to play.

11:13 AM â" And Rickie Fowler breaks his 10-hole par streak ... with a birdie! He's now 1-under, and playing very, very solid early on.
11:08 AM â" As we get going at Pinehurst, a look back at the best picture of the week, with Payne Stewart's daughter, Chelsea, recreating that famous image of her father's arm outstretched after his winning putt on this golf course back in 1999.

9:51 AM â" Phil Mickelson, all 44 years of him, just pulled 6-iron from 213 on the par-3 17th after his playing partner hit 3-iron. Knocks it pin high, has a good birdie look to get to 2-under.
