11:57 AM â€" And Phil Mickelson is tied for the lead at the U.S. Open! His birdie on the 5th coupled with the bogey by Kuchar has Lefty atop the leaderboard at 2-under.

11:36 AM â€" Potential sleeper of the week at Pinehurst â€" Brendon Todd. In his last three starts on the PGA Tour he has gone WIN, T-5 and T-8. He's currently even par on his round after 12 holes.

11:23 AM â€" Matt Kuchar is still in the lead at Pinehurst, but the story of the day is the way amateur Matthew Fitzpatrick is playing. Pairing with Justin Rose and Phil Mickelson, Fitzpatrick is 2-under on his round with five holes to play.

11:17 AM â€" And in "non golf course golf news," Phil Mickelson looks to be in the clear on those allegations of insider trading. The story right here.

11:13 AM â€" And Rickie Fowler breaks his 10-hole par streak ... with a birdie! He's now 1-under, and playing very, very solid early on.

11:08 AM â€" As we get going at Pinehurst, a look back at the best picture of the week, with Payne Stewart's daughter, Chelsea, recreating that famous image of her father's arm outstretched after his winning putt on this golf course back in 1999.

10:55 AM â€" And Matt Kuchar sits alone atop the leaderboard at 3-under after Henrik Norlander three-putts for bogey. Jordan Spieth is a shot back, with Phil Mickelson, Graeme McDowell and Webb Simpson all at 1-under.

10:41 AM â€" And Pinehurst claims her first victim! Tom Lewis, the 23-year-old pro from England, makes a quadruple-bogey 8 on the par-4 third hole.

10:38 AM â€" Pars are going to be a very, very important part of this U.S. Open, and Rickie Fowler knows that. Opens his championship with nine straight pars.

9:51 AM â€" Phil Mickelson, all 44 years of him, just pulled 6-iron from 213 on the par-3 17th after his playing partner hit 3-iron. Knocks it pin high, has a good birdie look to get to 2-under.

9:43 AM â€" Rickie Fowler honored Payne Stewart on Thursday with his knickers and socks. Check out video of him rocking this great outfit right here.

9:38 AM ET â€" Welcome all to the second major of this 2014 season! Brandt Snedeker is your current leader on the course at 4-under, with Matt Kuchar and Jordan Spieth chasing him at 2-under. Phil Mickelson, searching for that final leg of the career Grand Slam, sits at 1-under as he plays his opening nine holes at Pinehurst.
