2014 Irish Open Betting Preview Tips And Predictions

The Irish Open, Fota Island Resort, 19 Jun 2014 - 22 Jun 2014

Home Favourites

Rory McIlroy 5/1 is the out and out favourite for this weeks Irish Open.  The Ulsterman continues to support his home open and with six top 10's from the Honda onwards including that win at Wentworth, and looks the smart bet here.  Will have huge media obligations this week though and coming off a tiring week at the US Open (T23) he wont have it all his own way.
2009 Champion Shane Lowry is available at 30/1 this week.  He tied fifth at Carton last year and though he missed the Pinehurst cut, is coming off a good European run.  Turned the corner with a T15 at the Open de Espana, scored that excellent solo second at Wentworth and was T25 at The Nordea.

Doc's Ones To Watch

Steven Gallacher 25/1

If Steven's US form hasn't been what he would have liked this year with MC's at The Heritage, Players and US Open since April, his European form ha s been the opposite.  T5 at Wentworth was followed by a playoff loss in Sweden.  Another chance to impress McGinners though he is a lock for a Ryder Cup spot.

Rafa Cabrera Bello 33/1

Blows hot and cold does our Rafa but the conditions are the predicted balmy sunshine I figure he'll have a great week here.  Tied second on the links in Portrush behind Jamie Donaldson in 2012 and tied fifth at Carton House last season.  Recent form is decent too with a T16 at the PGA Championship and a T9 last ti me out in Sweden.

Alvaro Quiros 33/1

Great to see Alvaro Quiros coming back to form and looking around the Fota Island course, this should be right up his street.  Alvaro is on a cut streak of five events, scored an excellent third in China in April and a T6 in Sweden last time out, where he lead the GIR stats.  Good each way shout.

Marcel Siem 40/1

Really really impressed with the way Marcel Siem grinded (or should that be "ground") his way to a tremendous T12 at Pinehurst (+3) and that must have given him a huge mental boost.  That followed a T7 at Wentworth so the German's form is solid.
My only worry is fatigue,  I make it that Marcel has been to Spain, Malaysia, China, Texas, Surrey, North Carolina and now Cork in the past two months and I'm pooped even writing that!  Actually that's not my only worry, my other one is that Marcel might just FLIP OUT!!!!!!

Long Odds Glory

Robert Karlsson's  putter was magical in Malmo and helped him to a Sunday 63 and T6 finish.  Fu nny enough he also finished T6 at the Murphy's Irish Open at Fota in 2011 and at 60/1 is a fun each way bet.

Also on the same odds of 66/1 is young Englishman Eddie Pepperell. After a dismal early season, Eddie finally played a weekend in China and improved his finish in Spain, then Wentworth and came good with a T6 at The Nordea.

Touted by many as the next big Thomas Pieters is also listed at 100/1; he has mixed missed cuts a with T8 in Malaysia, T2 at the Open de Espana and 14th at The Nordea.
