Three âGilHansementsâ To Test The Pros At The Blue Monster
With the WGC Cadillac almost upon us, the newly redesigned TPC Blue Monster has been unveiled by Olympic course designer Gil Hanse. The aim was to provide the best players in the world with a better challenge. Here are three things Hanse has done to achieve that.

Spanking New Greens
Every green on the course has been ripped up, re-contoured and sewn anew. All the bank of information the pros would have built up on breaks etc can be binned because every putt on the course will be a new one.

The first hole, a par 5, used to be one of the easiest holes on the PGA Tour. Not any more. A new back tee 80 yards behind the old one has been installed with new bunkers in the landing area and a lake has popped up to the right of the green. Not a gimmee birdie anymore.
The Long and Short Changes
Several holes see new further back tees to lengthen holes and put a premium on driving accuracy. Some however have been shortened. The 16th hole has been dialled back about 30 yards in order to tempt the players to go for the green from the tee. The par-3 15th hole has been cut down to 153 yards, while the 9th has been stretched to 216 yards all to bring water into play more.
