2014 Arnold Palmer Invitational Betting Preview, Tips and Predictions
The Course
Once the most feared leg of the Florida Swing, this year Bay Hill will serve as light relief following the tests at a Trumped up Doral and Copperhead. Tiger Woods got it done at 13 under for the past two years with an overall average winning score of 10 under over the past five years. Plays as a par 72 for the fifth time this year and in my opinion is a course rewarding experience and course management. Only Robert Gamez, who won here in 1990, has been a debutant winner over the past 25 years. Every time we get to see Arnold Palmer, now 84, greet the winner here is an absolute joy; letâs savour these times while they last.Having trawled all the sites for the best odds, this week I'm quoting from Ladbrokes who in my opinion are offering the best prices.
Bubba Watson 14/1
With eight time champion Tiger Woods installed as favourite according to Ladbrokes at 8/1, Iâm looking to Bubba Watson to deliver us a reward each way from 16/1. Tied second at WGC Cadillac and Phoenix to sandwich his Northern Trust Open win, Watson is on a similar formline to when he won his Masters. Three top 15 finishes since 2008 include a best of T4 in 2012.
Justin Rose 14/1
Rose is playing his way back to form after a niggling shoulder injury halted his early season progression and scored a nice T8 at Copperhead. Lack of tournament practice may have contributed to his Sunday 74 and that embarrassing âmega duffâ but I believe Rose is worth a flutter at Bay Hill. Second to Woods last year and a T3 in 2011.
Kevin Na 40/1
Has certainly improved his speed of play but still managed to upset Robert Garrigus caddie Brent Henley last weekend. Whatever you think of his tardiness itâs hard to argue with Naâs three top 10âs already in 2014 including a T4 at the AT&T and that solo second at Copperhead. Didnât play here in 2013 but scored a T4 on his last visit in 2012. Naâs best here is T2 in 2010 when Ernie Els won. Still the most worried looking golfer after every shot in the world !
Graeme McDowell 20/1
Was convinced that GMac would do well here last year but it didnât pan out. Quietly going about his business early in the season with a T7 alongside his Dad at Pebble, a good run in the matchplay and another T9 at Doral. Excellent stats say his putter will be key this week. Best here of solo second behind Woods in 2012.
Will MacKenzie 50/1
Two time winner on Tour (2006 Reno Tahoe, 2008 Viking Classic) Will MacKenzie is enjoying something of a rebirth in 2014. Three top 10âs include a T6 at The Honda and a T4 last time out at The Valspar. Secured an invite to the 120 man field, heâs the form player at decent odds.
