College Team Win And Honour Murdered Scottish Teammate
This is the story, tinged with great sadness, of the Georgia Southern college golf team who won a tournament for the first time in a year thanks to some divine intervention.
The Eagles team should have included a senior called Thomas Sharkey, who, along with his father and young sister were victims of a malicious house fire in Helensborough Scotland in 2011.
In his absence the Eagles were winless but resolved to make a special effort at the their home championship, the Schenkel Invitational, in honour of Thomas.

In the event two of Sharkeyâs best friends Hayden Anderson and Will Evans, both recorded hole in ones en route to winning it by 12 strokes. It was the first time in the tournament's 35-year history that Georgia Southern had won its home event.
"It was an emotional day yesterday with the two hole-in-ones, and we just wanted to come out today and finish it off,â said Team coach Larry Mays. âThomas was there the whole time, and we had the perfect Scottish weather for the last nine holes."
Two known arsonists, Scott Snowden, 39, and 51-year-old Robert Jennings were found guilty of deliberately starting the fire that killed the three members of the Sharkey family. It is believed Thomas Sharkey Sr was the target of the fire after he intervened in a feud over an unpaid drug debt.
The Eagles team have resolved to bring the trophy to Scotland to Thomasâ mother Angela, who survived the fire.
