$250 Face Value 2014 US Masters Badge Covers Biggest Ticket Scam In Sports
The official 2014 Masters badges will depict the 12th hole at Augusta National and on the face of it the price tag of $250 is equally serene and wholesome.
The reality is completely different.
Yes a tiny number of daily tournament tickets are offered up each year in a lottery on Masters.com but thatâs the only place in the world the public can find a ticket at face value.
Itâs almost 40 years since the official list of âpatronsâ who get tickets or âbadgesâ closed in 1971 and although it was opened briefly 14 years ago, most Masters badges are now passed on by those on the list on to corporate ticket touts who in turn sell them for extortionate profits.
A $250 four day ticket, dressed up in a package which is essentially a hotel room in Augusta will be sold for over $12,000.
It took me thirty seconds to find the package below online. Surely itâs time Billy Payne overhauled the ticketing system to allow real golf fans the opportunity to attend the Masters without having their pants pulled down?
Perhaps names and ID on badges to make them non transferrable, as happens in other sports?
