TaylorMade Daddy Long Legs Has Highest MOI Ever
What is MOI or Moment of Inertia? Simply put itâs the tendency of a clubhead to stay square at impact, something you really need in a putter.
Hot on the success of the chunky Ghost Spider putter series, TM have now introduced the Daddy Long Legs which represents yet another technological advancement for the flatstick. Its a stripped back streamlined version of a TM Spider putter. Gone are the extra alignment bits (like the âbasketball courtâ graphics which were a good idea at the time) and retained is the surlyn face insert which gets the ball rolling end over end quicker than other inserts which cause the ball to skid off the face.
Hereâs the science bit.
The Daddy Long Legs has the companyâs highest MOI putter ever at 8500, the Ghost Spider was approx 2000 MOI units lower. So how have they done it? The Daddy Long Legs contains a counter balance which makes the head weigh a whopping 395 grams, helping increase the moment of inertia, or twistiness on off centre strikes.
The downside
In order for the counter balance effect to be felt, players will have to go for a Daddy Long Legs putter with a longer shaft than they are used to. If you normally use a 35 inch putter, youâll be handed a 38 inch model to test drive.
Overall
Any putter than can increase the MOI by 2000 points in one fell swoop is worth our attention. The simplified black and white alignment aid will appeal to many. This putter will suit players with a âback and down the lineâ stroke. If you can get comfortable with the longer shaft, this could be the one for you.
