Shotlink Stats for Tiger Woods at 2013 WGC Cadillac.

tiger woods winWhen Tiger Woods looks back at his performance in winning the WGC Cadillac in the analytic detail that you know he will, here’s some of the shotlink stats he will find.

The key area of Tiger’s game that improved at Doral was his putting.  After receiving an hour long lesson on the eve of the event from Steve  Stricker to put him back into the same stroke posture that he had in Torrey Pines, Woods finished with an average of 1.981 strokes gained on the greens.  Only Stricks himself with an average of 2.06 putts beat Woods on the Doral greens.

Off the tee Woods used his course management skills with several irons and fairway woods used in addition to the driver.  Distance wise Woods checked in with an average of 296.5 yards off the tee with his Victory Red driver, while Nike stablemate Rory McIlroy finally found the formula with his Nike Covert, averaging an incredible 317.2 yards.  Woods hit just over half of the fairways over the week off the tee, finishing well down the accuracy stats in tied 30th with 53.57%. That’s an area he will need to work on before Augusta as he knows he’ll need to be hitting from the fairways to find the correct areas of the super slick Augusta greens.

But what Sean Foley might be most proud of with Woods is his irons.  Much like the Woods of old, Tiger’s greens in regulation percentage of 69.44 was tied sixth in the field setting him up time and again for birdie.  Watch out for the leader in that category Nicolas Colsaerts in the coming weeks.  The big hitting Belgian hit three quarters of all greens in regulation; if he gets his putting boots on one of these weeks, watch out!

So lots there to be happy with for Tiger, but plenty still to work on. And the fact that there is room for improvement looks ominous!
