Colin Montgomerie Now Clear Favourite To Be Next Pope- Sky Sources

Colin Montgomerie has emerged as the clear favourite to become the next Pope according to sources in Sky Sports. The process to elect a new leader for the Roman Catholic Church will begin in Vatican City today.
Montgomerie is said to have flown into Rome late last night and is staying near the Sistine Chapel where 115 cardinals will enter into conclave to elect a new Pontiff.
According to Sky, the Scot already displays many of the traits of a Pope. “As viewers will already know, Monty possesses Papal Infallibility in that every word to come from his mouth is ‘indisputable’ or ‘from God himself’. He’s also able to stutter in five different languages and has that profoundly solemn look vital for any would-be Pontiff”, Sky reporter James Haddock told other reporters.
Originally thought to be a straight battle between Cardinal’s Angelo Scola of Italy and Odilo Scherer from Brazil, Monty's name has only recently been brought into the mix.

But those whispers have now escalated, with the Scot being tipped strongly to get a stint at the job. A source very close to the Montgomerie camp is saying they have "an extremely high level of confidence that the vote is going to go Colin Montgomerie's way."
Another unnamed Sky source out on St Peter’s Square reported "There's a lot of full on conversations going on here at the moment, some of them getting slightly heated. Some have said to me they've already made their minds up, they won't say who, others I think may well be prepared to be swayed by discussions tomorrow night.”
"But the indications from the pre conclave drinks reception right now is that it looks like Colin Montgomerie may well be in the box seat to be the next Pope.”
"It would be a huge shock for pretty much everyone involved in Catholicism really."
Sky Bet have responded by slashing the Scot to just 1/5 to get the Pope's job.
Speaking before heading out to the bookies this morning, Montgomerie said: "Obviously, it would be a dream come true if I could be seen to be Pope.
"It will be a great honour. It seemed to be between Scola and Scherer and now my name seems to be mentioned an awful lot, so we will see."
The conclave will begin with cardinals entering in solemn procession into the Sistine Chapel at 3.30pm GMT. Voting will be by silent ballot. Afterwards if Montgomerie is not elected, the ballots will be burned and black smoke will emerge from the chimney of Sky News building.
