2013 US Masters Betting Preview, Power Rankings and Tips
2013 US Masters Betting Preview, Power Rankings and Tips
We have had a great run of winners this season and with the US Masters only two weeks away, itâs time to compile a shortlist. Here are my Power Rankings for the 2013 staging. Iâll post a more detailed tips piece closer to the event, but for now, this should give you something to chew on. Odds quoted from betfair.
1. Tiger Woods 4.5/1
What can you say about Woods? On paper he seems to be back to his best, winning regularly again on the PGA Tour and with a happy personal life. The last of his four Masters wins may have come in 2005, but he has been in the top four five times since. Those following the stats will point the weakness in Woods driving accuracy, but even that points to Augusta being the most likely track for the next Woods Major win. Sure to give you a run for your money with that intimidation factor back to spf 50!
2. Phil Mickelson 15/1
Do not ignore Phil Mickelson in The Masters until heâs the honorary starter. Three greens jackets in 2004 and 2006 and 2010 are included in 14 career top 10âs at Augusta. Apart from winning Lefty has been in the top three on five occasions including last year when he battled back from a rotten first round of 74. Of the top 15 finishers in 2012, only Phil and Adam Scott were over par on Thursday; that shows heart, patience and not little course management skills. A recent winner in Phoenix with his new Cally Razr Fit Xtreme and having been on reconnaissance recently at the venue to check out one subtle green change, I think Phil will be there again this year.
3. Charl Schwartzel 26/1
From the South African Open last November to the Malaysian Open last week, Charl has played eight strokeplay events all over the world, finishing inside the top 10 on all but one occasion (16th at the WGC Cadillac). Now if that isnât consistency, I donât know what is! The 2011 winner has the game for Augusta both physically and mentally.
4. Justin Rose 25/1
What words can you use to describe Justin Roseâs golf? Solid. Unfazed. Fighter. Battler. Consistent. Whatever the words, Rose is bringing a serious formline into Augusta; he hasnât been outside the top 25 since the Deutsche Bank in Boston last Augusta. Tied eighth here last year in his fifth appearance; heâs never missed a cut and never finished outside the top 40. A serious contender.
5. Adam Scott 34/1
This will be Adamâs 12th Masters and that gives him vital experience of the subtle breaks others donât see. Seems to enjoying Augusta since changing to the long putter too; his run with Jason Day to finish tied for second in 2011 was viewing gold as was his gumption to recover from being three over par on Thursday last year to finish tied eighth. Okay there may be some British Open scar tissue but I still think Scott is a Major Champion in waiting. Good recent form too at Doral and Riviera.
6. Keegan Bradley 40/1
Thereâs just something special about Keegan Bradleyâs battling qualities that makes you think heâll win more Majors. Heâs been taken under his wing by Phil Mickelson which means access to a wealth of experience during practice rounds. The pair have already visited and played Augusta a few weeks back. Keegan tied for 27th on his debut last season but with good recent form at Bay Hill, seems to be peaking at just the right time.
7. Ian Poulter 50/1
I firmly believe that the best chance Ian Poulter has of winning a Major will be at Augusta. This will be his ninth appearance and he has never been outside the top 33. Top 10âs in two of the last three years. If Poulter gets himself into the mix come Sunday, you know heâll have the bottle to close it out.
8. Brandt Snedeker 29/1
Lets for the purposes of this preview assume that Sned will be fully fit for Augusta. A third, two seconds and a win (at Pebble Beach) between January and February cannot be ignored. Top 20âs in the last two stagings represents a recovery after his heartbreak in 2008 when a final round of 77 tore the green jacket off his back and dropped him into a tie from third. A beautiful putter on his day, if Sned is fit, heâs definitely able.
9. Louis Oosthuizen 44/1
If China is the next emerging powerhouse of golf, then South Africa is the current one. Louis Oosthuizen already has a Major from St. Andrews in 2010 but he came so close to adding to that last year. Only the Bubba miracle shot from the trees denied him at the death. Since winning the Volvo Golf Champions event in January, Louis has gone off the boil and drifting in the odds. Donât let that dissuade you from an each way bet; Louis will be eyeing this up for a big performance and goodness knows the golfing Gods owe him.
10. Geoff Ogilvy 120/1
Want a long odds glory shot? Try Geoff Ogilvy. Missed cuts in five of his last seven events, and that would have been six if they were cutting at the WGC Cadillac! But the one cut he made, Ogilvy finished second at PGA National at the Honda. The Aussie has played seven Masters and never been outside the top 40. One shot behind Schwartzel when he won in 2011. At odds of over 100/1 he worth a euro each way.
