Lee Trevino says Phil Mickelson has such a good short game he couldn’t even caddie for him

There are plenty of similarities between the life and career of Lee Trevino and that of Phil Mickelson. Both are showman that brought fans to the golf course in droves, some of the reasoning being they're simply fun to watch and some because of the charisma both carried around for 18 holes.

Mickelson has five majors, Trevino ended with six, and both had that one major they just couldn't figure out (Mickelson at the U.S. Open, Trevino at Augusta).

Trevino's short game was absolutely incredible, but how does it compare to what Mickelson can do with his wedges around the green? Trevino told Bleacher Report that Phil is so good around the greens he wouldn't even know how to caddie for him.

"I love Mickelson and I love his short game, great wedge player. I don't think there's a man that's ever lived that has â€'â€' they always talked about me being good with wedges. I don't think I could have caddied for Mickelson when it comes to hitting wedges. I mean, this guy is phenomenal, what he can do."

From the backwards flop shot to hitting a wedge over Roger Cleveland's head from point-blank range to that shot he hit to win the Scottish Open, it's pretty clear that Mickelson has some of the best hands in the history of the game, but I would love to see Trevino on Phil's bag for at least one round. The only stipulation? Both have to be mic'd up and nobody can edit the banter.

The good news for Phil (and Trevino's back) is I feel like Mickelson is pretty set at this point in the caddie business. That guy Mickelson has had on his bag has worked out just fine over the years and I don't anticipate that changing anytime soon.
