Jim Furyk becomes the sixth player in PGA Tour history to post a round of 59

The major season in golf might be over, and the interest in the sports world might be on the NFL and Johnny Manziel, but a veteran on the PGA Tour did something on Friday that should bring all the eyeballs back to golf.

Jim Furyk posted the sixth round of 59 in the history of the PGA Tour, making a birdie on his final hole to shoot 12-under at the BMW Championship. Furyk looked like he might go sub-59 as his round got going, playing his front nine in 8-under only to make the turn and birdie three of his next four holes.

It looked like the magic number might be out of reach after his bogey on the par-4 5th hole, his 14th hole of the day, but Furyk got back to 11-under with a birdie on his 16th hole only to set up the drama on his final hole, the par-4 9th.

Furyk stuffed his second shot to just under three feet, rolling in that birdie putt to join Al Geiberger, Chip Beck, David Duval, Paul Goydos, and Stuart Appleby as the only men in PGA Tour history to go sub-60 in a tournament round.

It was a pretty perfect day for Furyk all the way around, hitting every fairway and missing only one green and combining that with just 23 putts that included 12 one-putts.

It is a pretty incredible accomplishment from Furyk to put this round together considering what has happened to him over the course of a year.

Furyk was in contention at the U.S. Open in 2012 but blew up on his way in on Sunday and just flat out choked at the Bridgestone Invitational last season with a double-bogey on the 72nd hole to lose to Keegan Bradley by a shot.

If that wasn't enough he struggled at the Ryder Cup and just recently got passed over by Presidents Cup captain Fred Couples as a captain's pick for the matches next month despite going 5-0-0 the last time this event was played in 2011.

This was one of those rounds that couldn't have come at a better time for the 43-year-old who hasn't won on the PGA Tour since the Tour Championship in 2010. Furyk's 59 jumped him all the way to the top of the leaderboard at Conway Farms but his job isn't over yet.

Furyk now has two full days of golf left, and while this round will be one to enjoy in the offseason, he still needs to stay focused and try to follow up a ridiculously low round on Friday with another good round on Saturday if he wants to close this out and win his 17th career PGA Tour tournament.

Sarah Stirk Nipple Gate: Navy Top Leaves Viewers Disappointed

London: Sky Sports management this morning issued a statement  apologizing to subscribers after Sarah Stirk wore a navy dress live on air.  It is believed up to 60,000 horny golfers were left limp after they tuned in to final round coverage of the Valero Texas Open in the hope of getting a glimpse of the legendary Stirk starter buttons. “I pay my subscription, I’m bloody well entitled to see Sarah’s Wimbledon strawberries” said factory worker Paul Manning 52 from Hereford. “I even missed the ten minute freeview, coz my mate Derek tweeted that Stirk was going into the shot centre for ten minutes at 11pm”. Holly Sonders Quits Golf Channel After Contract Talks Fail. Moves To Fox.

Tissues at the ready guys as this will come as a shock to you all that Holly Sonders , the female face of the Golf Channel, has quit and reportedly taken a job with Fox Sports. According to  reports Sonders, who appeared regularly on “Morning Drive” since 2011, could not come to an agreement on a new contract deal with the Golf Channel and was quickly snapped up by Fox Sports where she is expected to work on golf and NFL.
