2013 Wales Open Betting Preview, Tips and Predictions

 Here are my tips in conversation with Dave McIntyre on the Newstalk Golf Weekly podcast.  My section starts at 51 minutes in.

Bernd Wiesberger 16/1

celtic_manor_2012Tipped Bernd last week at Gleneagles and he made us some cash with a T4 finish.  That’s five top 15 finishes in his last six European Tour starts.  Hitting it so big this twentycourse should be no problem!

Gonzalo Castano 22/1

Gonzo hasn’t played since the US PGA Championship but he has three top 12 finishes in the last years at Celtic Manor including a T2 in 2012.  I remember that sparked off a great end of season for the Spaniard; he played well at the KLM then won in Italy.  I’m a big believer in form cycles even though the price is surprisingly short.

Ross Fisher 20/1

Tied for sixth twice at Celtic Manor in 2012 and 2009.  Ross has mixed terrible on the PGA Tour with solid on the European Tour this season; I make it seven events played and top 35 in all.  A win is a bit of a stretch but each way .

Brooks Koepka 45/1

The three time Challenge Tour winner this season is starting to get a few big Tour starts, this is his sixth.  Played The Open and the US PGA Championship and tied 28th at Gleneagles last week.  Brooks would have finished much higher too but for a 75 on Saturday.  I think he’ll go well at Celtic Manor.  An American should like this place, shouldn’t he?

Paul Waring 50/1

Seemed to find his groove at the Johnnie Walker after missing cuts in Scotland and France.  Top fives in Austria and Spain already this season, if he can keep his form going is worth a flutter.  Played well at Celtic Manor in 2009.

Long Odds Shots

I like Tom Lewis at 150/1.  The touring life hasn’t quite gone to plan after winning in Portugal in 2011 but I really liked his form last week in Scotland.  Am really interested to see if there’s a  progression this week.  I’m also keeping an eye on Anders Hanson this week at 100/1. He’s still not 100% after injury but tied second in 2011 and is worth keeping an eye on.

The media centre at the 2013 PGA Show was buzzing yesterday.  Not because of anything that happened at the show.  God forbid! When I rocked in, several men (and one woman) were gathered around an iphone ogling and sharing  two pics of who they claimed were Holly Sonders naked. Now I have to hold my hands up and say, I had to google her to find out she’s from The Golf Channel. I don’t watch the Golf Channel because I don’t have an erectile dysfunction problem or need to rent a car from National.  I’m told adverts for both are all that’s on that channel. How they knew for certain it was her, I dont know.  Unless the cheeks of her ass were on her passport photo and they recognized them from there, but I doubt it. Sarah Stirk Nipple Gate: Navy Top Leaves Viewers Disappointed

London: Sky Sports management this morning issued a statement  apologizing to subscribers after Sarah Stirk wore a navy dress live on air.  It is believed up to 60,000 horny golfers were left limp after they tuned in to final round coverage of the Valero Texas Open in the hope of getting a glimpse of the legendary Stirk starter buttons. “I pay my subscription, I’m bloody well entitled to see Sarah’s Wimbledon strawberries” said factory worker Paul Manning 52 from Hereford. “I even missed the ten minute freeview, coz my mate Derek tweeted that Stirk was going into the shot centre for ten minutes at 11pm”. The Sky statement read: We apologize unreservedly for the navy dress Sarah wore during last nights broadcast, through which no nipples were visible. This was due to a wardrobe malfunction. However we do intend to rectify this during our US Masters coverage and assure viewers that plenty of bridge rivets will be on show, both from Sarah and special guest Colin Montgomeri

Holly Sonders Quits Golf Channel After Contract Talks Fail. Moves To Fox.

Tissues at the ready guys as this will come as a shock to you all that Holly Sonders , the female face of the Golf Channel, has quit and reportedly taken a job with Fox Sports. According to  reports Sonders, who appeared regularly on “Morning Drive” since 2011, could not come to an agreement on a new contract deal with the Golf Channel and was quickly snapped up by Fox Sports where she is expected to work on golf and NFL.
