Tiger Woods funny picIt’s official, Tiger Woods will appear at the 2014 US Masters after all.

The injured star’s recovery from his recent microdiscectomy has been so rapid, his doctors have cleared him to accept an invitation from Billy Payne to hit the ceremonial opening tee shot.

Woods will join Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus for the dawn tee time Thursday.

Because he is a current PGA Tour player and former champion, by hitting a tee shot, Woods will automatically qualify for enough ranking points to keep him on top of the complicated Official World Golf Rankings irrespective of how  Adam Scott and Henrik Stenson perform.

The ceremonial starters traditionally retire after hitting their opening drives but Woods, albeit jokingly, left the door open for a little more.
“I never thought, at 38, I would be hitting the opening tee shot at The Masters, but I’m delighted to accept Mr. Payne’s invitation”, Woods said on twitter.  “I’ve been able to hit some wedge shots at home so I’m sure I’ll be able to punch away a drive pain free.  You never know, if it goes straight and far enough, I might just continue to play a few holes.”
More as it emerges.
