Video: Jim Furyk Shoots Historic 59 at BMW Championship
Update: Yessssssssss, Jimmy did it! Shoots 59 on Friday The 13th! A word too to 65 year old Fluff Cowan who is battling a sore shoulder but lugged the bag manfully.
Update: Boom, second shot to his last is stitched to just inside feet. This putt for a 59!
Update: Missed. Needs to birdie the ninth, his last for glory.
Update: Jimâs second to the par five eighth was inches from being perfect. After a tough chip he has about 20 feet for birdie. Needs it!
Update: Boom, birdie on the seventh, his 16th. One more birdie now for 59. And a par 5 to come!
Update: Three putt disaster on 14. First bogey. The dream is still alive though!
At one stage in his second round Jim Furyk needed one more birdie in his last five holes to shoot a second round of 59 at the BMW Championship. âWhat course is he playingâ said Tiger Woods when he heard of Furykâs progress in tough windy conditions on a course that hardly favours his game. A three putt on 14 looked to have stalled his run, but he bounced back brilliantly with another birdie on the seventh and when he pitched to inside four feet on the last, players rushed to see Furyk brush in the the historic 59 putt.
Pic: Furyk clearly psyched after his birdie on 12.
Before Furyk, the magic 59 had only been done five times previously by Al Geiberger in 1977 at the FedEx St Jude Classic, by Chip Beck at the 1991 Shriners, by David Duval at the 1999 Bob Hope (Humana), by Goydos at the 2010 John Deere and by Stuart Appleby the same year at the Greenbrier. Notably Gay also shot a 59, but on the Web.com Tour.
