Joost Luiten 20/1
Might have had one eye on his home Open judging by his lacklustre performance at the European Masters. Always seems to be under pressure to perform here ever since finishing second behind Ross Fisher in 2007 and can expect to have huge galleries following him throughout. The expectation stems from not only being the âlocal lad done goodâ but also solid recent form in Wales (T2) and Germany (T10) since winning the Lyoness Open in Austria in June.
Victor Dubuisson 50/1
The Frenchman will be a stranger to the Kennemer layout which has not been used since 2009 but judging by the accuracy and tidy putting he displayed in coming third last week in Switzerland, he should fare just fine. Big things are expected from Victor and heâs starting to deliver with last weeks result coming on the back of solid top 20âs in Scotland and France (he was forced to withdraw in Wales after round one).
Simon Dyson 18/1
Another good result for the resurgent Simon Dyson in Switzerland last week. His T22 in the Alps bring his current top 30 tally to six in a row with a best finish of fifth in Paris in the Summer. The Englishman is one of the few to have pedigree at the KLM Open, wherever they play it. He won in 2011 at Hilversum and twice at this weeks venue Kennemer in 2006 and 2009. Among the favourites for those reasons.
Ross Fisher 16/1
Fisher is another former winner at Kennemer (2007) and has to be close to another Tour win. Itâs over three years since he won the Irish Open in Killarney and though he has been knocking at the door, it just hasnât happened. I was very impressed with his Saturday 63 in Crans Montana last week and to follow it with a final round of 66 to tie fifth tells me Fisher is in control of his game. As well as the win five years ago, Ross featured on the leaderboard in 2011 when he tied sixth at Hilversum.
Long Odds Irish
I donât know what it is about Kennemer but Irish players have always done well here. Darren Clarke (non runner?) won here in 2008 and top fived in 2009. Peter Lawrie (100/1) putted his way into a playoff with Simon Dyson and Peter Hedblom the same year. The course is also tailor made for David Higgins at 250/1.
But of the lot I fancy Damien McGrane at 125/1. The Meath man jumped from 111th on the Race To Dubai to secure his card with a brilliant T6 in Wales and he twice missed out on playoffs at Kennemer by a single shot in 2006 and 2009. If there is any justice in the golfing world Damien deserves some!
