Peter Senior continues his impressive play at the 3M Championship with opening 66
BLAINE, Minn. -- Thereâs no cheering in the press box, or in the media tent or even beside the 18th green. Thatâs the rule of sports reporters, but every once in a while a guy comes along that you have to root for. It is said that familiarity breeds content, but not so in this case. Peter Senior is becoming quite familiar in these parts, (these parts being the media tent at the 3M Championship). Only the leaders get the âprivilegeâ of a seat in the interview room and over the past couple years, nobody has spent more time in that seat than Senior.
For the third consecutive year, Senior started his week at 3M Championship with a stellar opening round, but he wasn't exactly elated with his score. After leaving a few shots out there, Senior quipped, âyou always feel like you could have done a little betterâ. That reaction should come as no surprise though as heâs opened with 65s the previous two years here, one better than he shot on Friday. Perhaps heâs looking ahead the weekend already.
Though Senior has started well at the 3M Championship over the past couple years, he has yet to hoist the trophy here. In fact, heâs yet to claim a victory on the Champions Tour anywhere, and thatâs something that doesn't sit well with him. When asked about picking up a win on the Champions Tour, Senior said, âthatâs one thing thatâs eating me, I would dearly love to win over hereâ. Words are not needed to see just how badly he wants to win out here though. Seniorâs desire to win on the Champions Tour is evident by his actions. He skipped a guaranteed payday at the WGC Bridgestone this week to chase his dream of winning in the States.
Winning above money, how can you not root for this guy?
Come Sunday, Iâll be in a familiar spot, hoping that Senior might again join us in the media tent after his final round and although itâs against the rules to cheer for anyone, Iâd be surprised if there weren't at least a couple people cheering loudly for Mr. Senior come Sunday afternoon â" at least on the inside.
