Darren Fichardt 20/1

Defending champion. Missed the cut in Joburg on 3 under but still has enough recent good form to warrant a flutter. A T10 in Abu Dhabi was followed with a T16 in Qatar and a T13 in Dubai.

Thomas Aiken 10/1

africa open funnyThree top 10’s in his last four events make Thomas Aiken the favourite this week. T5 in Qatar and again in Joburg last week and Thomas knows it could have been so much better. Best here of second to Charl Schwartzel in 2010 and has two top 15 finishes since.

David Horsey 33/1

Horsey knocked it round in 63 last Friday which helped him to a T10 in Joburg and a return to form after MC’s in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. I remember a good result triggered three top 10’s in a row for David early in 2013 and let’s hope adding the Africa Open to his schedule this year pays dividends.

Danie Van Tonder 125/1

A 9th place finish in Joburg was a breakthrough moment in the career of the 2012 Sunshine Tour Rookie of the Year and I think Danie can have another great week at the Africa Open. It’s his third start in the event and has made the cut on both previous occasions finishing T29 in 2012 and T32 in 2013. Am expecting a much better finish this year. Each way or 12/1 to “finish in the top 10”.

Best Of The Rest: The Van der Walts

It’s hit or miss usually with Tjaart Van der Walt 50/1 but he came second here to Louis in 2012 and was T5 last year. Lost the playoff with Simon Thornton at the Najeti Hotels last year. Missed the cut last week in Joburg.

Dawie Van der Walt 30/1 won the Nelson Mandela tournament before Christmas and has continued his good form into 2014 with a T9 in Qatar and top 30’s in Dubai and Joburg.

Justin Walters is also available around 40/1. He tied second last week and if his form run of three events mimics that of his second in Portugal last year, he could contend again.

The media centre at the 2013 PGA Show was buzzing yesterday.  Not because of anything that happened at the show.  God forbid! When I rocked in, several men (and one woman) were gathered around an iphone ogling and sharing  two pics of who they claimed were Holly Sonders naked. Now I have to hold my hands up and say, I had to google her to find out she’s from The Golf Channel. Sarah Stirk Nipple Gate: Navy Top Leaves Viewers Disappointed

London: Sky Sports management this morning issued a statement  apologizing to subscribers after Sarah Stirk wore a navy dress live on air.  It is believed up to 60,000 horny golfers were left limp after they tuned in to final round coverage of the Valero Texas Open in the hope of getting a glimpse of the legendary Stirk starter buttons. “I pay my subscription, I’m bloody well entitled to see Sarah’s Wimbledon strawberries” said factory worker Paul Manning 52 from Hereford. “I even missed the ten minute freeview, coz my mate Derek tweeted that Stirk was going into the shot centre for ten minutes at 11pm”. The Sky statement read: We apologize unreservedly for the navy dress Sarah wore during last nights broadcast, through which no nipples were visible. This was due to a wardrobe malfunction. However we do intend to rectify this during our US Masters coverage and assure viewers that plenty of bridge rivets will be on show, both from Sarah and special guest Colin Montgomeri

Holly Sonders Quits Golf Channel After Contract Talks Fail. Moves To Fox.

Tissues at the ready guys as this will come as a shock to you all that Holly Sonders , the female face of the Golf Channel, has quit and reportedly taken a job with Fox Sports. According to  reports Sonders, who appeared regularly on “Morning Drive” since 2011, could not come to an agreement on a new contract deal with the Golf Channel and was quickly snapped up by Fox Sports where she is expected to work on golf and NFL.
