Slocum was briefly at 17 under but slipped off the pace by closing with two bogeys that also helped keep him out of The Barclays field.Â
Watney led with seven holes to play but closed poorly, running up a double-bogey at the last after slicing his tee shot out of bounds.
Flawless round
Villegas, 32, had an eagle and five birdies in a flawless round at Sedgefield to clinch his fourth victory on the PGA Tour and first since the 2010 Honda Classic.
He had to wait about 40 minutes after his round ended before his victory was secure. He closed his round with three straight pars, tapping in from about 2 feet on 18 and hoping it was good enough.
Jacobson needed a par on the final hole to force a playoff, but he rolled his 11-foot putt inches past the hole.
"It worked out my way. I played great on the first day. I played well today. I felt confident on the course. There were nerves, but that's part of the game," Villegas told CBS.
"It's been three-and-a-half years without a win. I always work hard. I always grind. I love the game, but it starts getting to you. I feel a little lighter, I feel great."
