Must Read Investigative Piece On TaylorMade Shows Releasing Three Drivers In One Year Has Lead To Job Losses And Adams Plant Closure

Hat tip to Geoff for discovering Tony Covey's investigative post on the troubles at TaylorMade golf. It is hard to believe their policy of releasing three drivers in one year has contributed majorly to the loss of 15% of the TaylorMade Adidias (including Adams golf)  global workforce, hundreds more jobs at Dick's Sporting Goods and now the closure of the Adams plant in Texas, but the facts are there.

Covey goes into great detail in the post about how TaylorMade arrived at this low point while Adidas in almost every other area is growing.  It cannot help also that Rory McIlroy is doinking his Nike Covert 320 yards while Dustin Johnson SLDR is on an enforced leave of absence.

Here's what Group CEO Herbet Hainer said on what's going to happen next with TM.

“At TaylorMade-adidas Golf, given the inventory that is still in the market, we will carefully look at new launching introduction timings. In addition we will begin restructuring program at TaylorMade-adidas Golf to align the organizations overhead to match lower expectations for the golf industry’s development. Combined I expect these measures will impact second half operating profit by €50 million to €60 million. As the dominant market leader, we take these initiatives now to secure our lead, and to be the first mover in reinvigorating the market. Our innovation pipeline is full and we are set to go, whenever we feel the market is ready.” â€" Herbert Hainer, adidas Group CEO
Sounds like there wont be three TM drivers next year!
