Bizarre Files: Cameron Tringale DQ's Himself From PGA Championship And Returns $53,000

This a very strange one. More than a week after the PGA Championship Cameron Tringale contacted officials from the PGA to disqualify himself after he felt he marked his card wrongly in the final round. I don't know why it took so long for Cameron to come forward but I suppose we should be happy that honesty did win out in the end, however long it took.

From what I can understand about the incident, Tringale "wiffed" over a tap in with his putter on the 11th missing the ball.  He had tied 33rd at the event and won $53,000.

In a statement on ESPN Tringale said

"While approaching the hole to tap in my 3-inch bogey putt, the putter swung over the ball prior to tapping in," Tringale said. "Realizing that there could be the slightest doubt that the swing over the ball should have been recorded as a stroke, I spoke with the PGA of America and shared with them my conclusion that the stroke should have been recorded. I regret any inconvenience this has caused the PGA of America and my fellow competitors in what was a wonderful championship."
Because the tournament scoring had closed officially, the only punishment for the offence was Tringale's disqualification.
