2014 Deutsche Bank Betting Tips, Predictions And Power Rankings

Deutsche Bank Championship, TPC Boston, Norton, MA • Purse: $8,000,000

The Course

TPC Boston went from being the easy track of FedExCup Playoffs since its start in 2007 to one that played somewhat much tougher in 2013.

The winning score went from 22 under in 2012 to 14 under in 2013.

The 7,216-yard, par 71 traditionally suits great putters but last year six players of the top 10 also topped that stat in Greens In Regulation.

Don't forget this tournament is scheduled to begin on Friday and end Monday which Labor Day in the USA.

Doc's Top 5 To Watch

Jason Day 16/1

There more I see of Jason Day the more I’m impressed.  Followed a 72 on Thursday in New York with three rounds in the 60’s to record a T2 finish.  Great track record in Boston too with a T2 in 2010 a T3 in 2011 and T13 last year.  Second in total putting on shotlink last week, Day is primed to win.

Bo Van Pelt 80/1

I’m looking for greens in regulation merchants to perform at the Deutsche Bank and with a T14 at The Wyndham and T13 at The Barclays in his past two starts Bo is flashing on my radar.  Both events included 65’s, the only problem for Van Pelt is stringing four decent rounds together to secure a good finish.  Second only to Hunter Mahan in greens hit last week, he looks a good each way shout from 80/1. A best of 7th in 2011 in Boston.

Hideki Matsuyama 55/1

The Memorial winner from June makes his Deutsche Bank debut this week and in theory TPC Boston should be right up his alley.  Missed the cut at The Wyndham but finished T30 at The Barclays to continue in the Playoffs.  A Major winner in waiting, I think he’ll have a good week.

Jim Furyk 22/1

More scar tissue than Ricky Hatton’s eyes at this stage but with a formline (and swelling bank account) that is just too good to ignore.  Since his fourth at The Open, Jim posted a second in Canada, T15 at the WGC, T5 at Valhalla and eighth from holding the 54 hole lead last week.  Remember an each way place still pays out quadruple the stake for Furyk who has three top 10’s since the event’s inception in 2007.  Climbs off the canvass one more time this week.

Ernie Els 60/1

Cannot be ignored after seeing him genuinely smile on a golf course for the first time in yonks at The Barclays.  A T5 on the leaderboard was thanks in large part to a T3 performance in putting and when Ernie figures out his ball striking and putting at the same time, he is still a force to be reckoned with.  In the form to better his T3 from 2008.

Long Odds Glory Shots

Kevin Stadler 125/1 won in Phoenix back in February, made a fun cameo at the Open de France and is a real horse for the course in Boston.  Improved on a T10 in 2012 with a T4 last season. Absolutely positively worth a quid each way.

John Senden 90/1 struck the ball very well last week even if he didn’t feature high on the leaderboard.  The Valspar winner from back in March has three top 15 finishes on this course in the last five stagings.
