Scott Ready For Masters Defence
By guest writer Zoe
Adam Scott has insisted he believes his six-week lay-off will benefit him in his bid to defend his Masters title at Augusta in April and keep possession of the famous green jacket. The Australian returns to tournament action this week and is stepping up his preparations for the opening major of the year. The world number two will be hoping his break from the game has recharged his batteries following a gruelling but successful 2013.
Scott has gradually slimed his schedule down over the past couple of years in a bid to stay as fresh as possible for the bigger events, and the Aussieâs tactic of playing less tournament golf has been the recipe for success over the last couple of seasons, with Scott the best-performing golfer based on the last eight majors.
While Scottâs 2013 season ultimately ended heartbreakingly close to completing a stunning Australian Triple Crown, winning the Masters earlier in the year finally cemented the Queenslanderâs place among the gameâs elite and proved Scott had what it takes to win a major and prove the Betfair odds right for tipping the Aussie. And the 33-year old is determined to build on his breakthrough year last season and make sure last yearâs Masters triumph wasnât a one-off.
"You don't really want to take some time off. You want to keep it rolling. But I'm also keeping the big picture in mind and my priorities are the Masters and the other three majors later this year, and I think the break was necessary, even though I was playing well."
"I haven't been competitive but I've certainly been working on all areas of the game. Hopefully I'm on track,â said Scott.
Despite the abundance of talent in Australia, only Jason Day, who was third last year and second in 2011, and Marc Leishman, who tied for fourth place last year, have booked their place alongside Scott at the seasonâs first major in April, although the Aussie trio are all being backed well to finish in the top-five again this year.
