Did Tiger âOffer Upâ Dubai As A Driver Swing Practice Session?
Looking back at last weekâs Dubai Desert Classic, wasnât it just one big practice session for Tiger Woods? Where was the grinding, where was the effort? On the practice range, thatâs where it was.
Tigerâs preoccupation with the mastery of the elusive âpull cutâ was equally fascinating and farcical in the same measure. Certainly in name.
Woods practiced the new driving shape pre tournament, he practiced it for an hour before tee off, and for several hours after; itâs almost like the pesky tournament got in the way of mastering the shot.
To try to perfect a shot is fine, but was Tiger using the European Tour as a testing ground for it under tournament conditions? Was it not the case that his appearance money vastly outweighed what was to be won in any case and since the tournament doesnât exist as far as America is concerned, Tiger was happy to use it as a well manicured driving range to test a theory?
We might well see that âpull cutâ or stinger drive or whatever you like to call it again later on this year, only this time under Major Championship conditions and will be by then second nature to arguably the greatest player that ever lived. Down the stretch that hard cut might just be the very catalyst that precipitates another Major.
But whoâs kidding who here? Would Tiger arrive at Jack or Arnieâs tournament and spend the week tinkering with an experimental driver swing? I think not. He took the European Tourâs money and never had any intention of providing value for it.
