Is Donald Trump In Doonbeg A Good Thing? Iâll Say Yes
Youâve read the papers, youâve watched the film about Trump in Scotland and youâve watched The Apprentice, so is the arrival of Donald Trump in Doonbeg, Ireland a terrible thing?
Iâm going to say itâs not. Iâm going to say it could be a good thing. Hereâs why.
Looking at Trump golf projects to date, they have (to my knowledge at least) been massive from the ground up projects. Starting with a square of land, some diggers, and a bunch of people lying under the wheels is pretty much standard fare for their developments. The often ruthless methods used to get the project completed in Scotland were a PR disaster. Not making much a case yet am I?
But Donald Trump is a shrewd man, and though he may not admit it in public, heâll have learned from that mistake. He starts out (as he did in Scotland) with a clean slate and a new friend in Ireland, and this time heâs not intending a messy break up by text.
Yes the Trump organization has bought Doonbeg because they got it at a knockdown price, but perhaps even more important to them is that itâs an already completed project.
In purchasing a fully functioning golf course and facilities, Trump this time avoids all the ugliness and can get straight down to what he does best; business. Not only that, but Iâm going to bet that apart from a bit of physical finessing around the ages and a new business model, Doonbeg will see very little change. Iâll also wager that the present management and staff, who I can attest do an excellent job, will be reassured by the new owner that their jobs will be safe.
Sure, Doonbeg might bet held up as a two finger salute to Scotland every now and again, but for this omelette I expect very few eggs to be broken.
Iâd love to read your thoughts in the comment box.
