2013 Wyndham Championship Betting Preview, Tips and Predictions

Last week: I tipped Jason Dufner at 40/1 and Henrik Stenson at 28/1.  €5 each way on both paid out €290.

David Toms 45/1

Sonya-Toms-David-Toms[3]_thumb[1]Three rounds in the sixties at Oak Hill last week must have given David Toms a real shot in the arm and the belief that he can win one more time on the PGA Tour. Granted it has been a couple of years since his last win at Colonial and he is now 46 but opportunities don’t come much better than a 7,100 par 70 on the PGA Tour. I fully expect David to be in the mix at Sedgefield just as he was in 2010 when his Sunday 64 got him a solo second behind Arjun Atwal.

Bill Haas 20/1

Haas_Bill_HS12Apart from a blip at The Open Bill is having the most consistent run I can remember. Won the AT&T National and followed it with solid top 10’s at The Greenbrier and WGC Bridgestone Invitational. He also played solid at Oak Hill (T25) where his family is steeped in tradition. Haas tied for seventh here last year on the new Champion Bermuda greens, his second top 10 in four years (T10 2009).

Webb Simpson 16/1

webbJust as he did at Firestone, Webb again mixed good and poor rounds at the US PGA last week but even a glimpse of his talent with a Friday 64 makes you sit up and take notice. Tied for eighth in 2010, then won the event here in 2011. Tied 22nd on the new greens last year with a poor weekend, but did notch a 63 on Friday. Bubbling under the surface and when he eliminates the mistakes is ready to win.

Carl Pettersson 55/1

08152012_Pettersson_InterviewCarl missed the cut at Oak Hill and hasn’t made the top 50 in any of his last five starts but there’s an ATM at the side of the clubhouse in Sedgefield with Carl’s name on it.  The winner in 2008 when he equalled the course record 61, and tied fourth in 2011 and 2012.

Jimmy Walker 45/1

jimmy-walker-humane-shelterI’m all over Jimmy Walker again this week. Tied for second at the Greenbrier in his last PGA Tour start and he tied fourth here last year. Shot a 62 on the Friday too. Jimmy is like a surfer, when he catches a wave, he rides it for weeks!

Best Of The Rest

Sedgefield is one of the shortest tracks on the PGA Tour and one of the few places where the shorter hitter can bag a few quid. Watch for Tim Clark 50/1 who has second last year and tied sixth in 2008. Tim had a hole in one during his final round at the US PGA, so there’s nothing wrong with his irons! David Toms also had a good final Major of the year and might be worth keeping an eye on. I’m still also convinced that Martin Kaymer 30/1 will shine in the next few weeks; he may not have course experience but he’s playing very nicely. Brandt Snedeker is the bookies favourite at 14/1. He had a brilliant July starting with a top 10 at the AT&T, then recovered from a horror Friday to tie for 11th at Muirfield and finally won the Canadian Open. Sned is also a former winner of this event in 2007 when it staged on the Forest Oaks course. He has done well also since the event moved back to Sedgefield with a T5 in 2009 and a T8 in 2010. Found Oak Hill just a bridge too far last week but the bookies have still kept the faith.
