2013 US PGA Championship Betting Preview, Tips and Predictions
Tiger Woods 7/2
The four time PGA Champion (1999, 2000, 2006, 2007), itâs hard to see past Woods with the form he brings in to Oak Hill. With his win last week (which we tipped), it brings his tally for the year to five. Some tipsters will point to the fact that Woods bombed out at Oak Hill last time but that counts for nothing to me; he was just returning from his first knee surgery during that period. The odds are extremely short and Tiger hasnât done it in the Majorâs for some time, but if he can get his driver out there straight, youâre looking at the winner.
Henrik Stenson 28/1
The muscle bound Swede has bullied his ball to four consecutive top 10 finishes including that brilliant solo second at Muirfield to Phil Mickelson. But what is most appealing to me about Henrik this year though is his consistency on a range on layouts. From a tied fifth on Pete Dyeâs Sawgrass, to a top 10 in Munich, to two great results on links and then to Firestone; even Tiger would marvel at Henrikâs ability to adapt and contend. Tied fourth at Oakland Hills in 2008 and tied sixth in Hazeltine the following year; with the form heâs in now Stenson could go even better this week.
Webb Simpson 50/1
Last yearâs US Open winner hasnât notched up a W since, but two of his three PGA Tour wins have come in the August to September period and that bodes well. Has a season best of a solo second to GMac at Hilton Head back in April and tied fifth at The Travelers just over a month ago. Mixed rounds of 64 and 66 with a 75 and 73 at Firestone, but if he can get four decent rounds together, watch out.
Martin Kaymer 66/1
If youâre looking to take anything from the snooze fest that is the WGC Bridgestone Invitational, itâs the improvement in form of Martin Kaymer. The German started with a round of 74, four shots worse than anyone else that finished in the top 10. His final three rounds in the 60âs were the first time he had done that since the Byron Nelson back in May where he tied fifth. A past winner at Whistling Straits in 2010, I expect a good showing from Martin. Worth an each way flutter.
Jason Dufner 40/1
Now hereâs a sleeper if there ever was one. Why do I give Jason Dufner a chance this week? Everyone knows heâs a great putter, but for me the character that he showed at Merion in the final round of the US Open was immense. Having not even top tenned in America all season, Dufner went out and took on one of the worldâs toughest tracks, shooting 67 to finish in a tie for fourth. Two top fives in the last three years at the USPGA also bode well for Jason, a tied fifth in 2010 was followed by a solo second to Keegan Bradley in 2011. Good form too last week at Firestone make him an educated each way prospect.
Bill Haas 66/1
Bill Haas has always looked a prospective Major winner to me; itâs figuring out when thatâs the problem. Big, Strong and cool under pressure it will be interesting to see if Oak Hill fits his game. Impressed me at Memorial and then got his win at Congressional a month after. Looked to be swinging it great at Firestone last Sunday and hopefully dad Jay will pass some hints after he tied fifth at Oak Hill the last time it staged the PGA in 2003!
