Charl Schwartzel 16/1

charlYou could hardly call 22ndor 25th bad results but if you were on a run of big top 10’s like Charl Schwartzel you might have been disappointed by them. The South African took a 4 week break after The Masters and didn’t ever threaten at The Players before kicking right back into gear last week with a solo third at the HP Byron Nelson. Lack of course experience could cost him, but certainly the form dog.

Ben Crane 55/1

maar01_ben_craneBen let us down last weekend at TPC Four Seasons throwing away a good first two rounds with a pair of 73’s. Still Golf Boy Ben has two top 10’s in his last five starts (T8 The Players, T5 Houston) and three more top 10’s since 2008 at Colonial, including a best of tied third in 2010.

Zach Johnson 18/1

jesus and zach johnson[4]Won in bizarre fashion last year after receiving a two shot penalty on the final hole for replacing his ball in the incorrect spot. Only TV analyst Peter Kostis spotted it around the green and reminded Johnson before he signed his card, saving him from disqualification. This year Zach’s form is well below that of previous years and he is without a top 10 finish since last years Open Championship. However a T19 at The Players indicated improvement and with two wins (2012, 2010) and two other top 10’s (T4 in 2011, T9 in 2009) in the past four years he surely has to be the horse for the course.

Bo Van Pelt 36/1

bo van peltFresh from a decent week at the Volvo World Matchplay where he was eventually beaten by winner Graeme McDowell. It’s Bo’s tenth Colonial and he has never missed the cut. Started great last year, bringing his run to 13 consecutive rounds in the sixties before losing his way at the weekend and finishing tied 19th. Played well at the Wells Fargo (T6) recently too and has a recent best of third in 2011 behind David Toms. Worth a look.

Robert Karlsson 90/1

Robert_Karlsson_2It’s a struggle these days for Robert Karlsson on the PGA Tour, which includes having to Monday qualify for tournaments. However last time out at the Wells Fargo the former European Tour Order Of Merit winner tied for fourth. He might just be worth a little flutter this week at long odds. Tied fifth in 2011.
Best Of The Rest
Ryan Palmer 50/1 started brightly last week at the HP Byron Nelson with rounds of 65 and 68 but a pair of 73’s scuppered our tip. Don’t write him off just yet though, he tied fifth here last year.
Scott Piercy 70/1 came off a run of four missed cuts in five starts to post a tied fifth last week in Texas. If he has had a Eureka moment on the range, watch out for more good golf from him this week.
