Stephen Gallacher Fails In His Bid For Automatic Ryder Cup Spot
What a fantastic effort by Stephen Gallacher who needed to come first or second at the Italian Open to secure his automatic Ryder Cup place.
Gallacher's final round of 7 under ordinarily would have done the trick, but a surging ex Ryder Cupper David Howell himself carded a round of 9 under to beat Gallacher into second by a single shot.
All of which means that Graeme McDowell secures the final automatic place on Paul McGinley's European side, with Gallacher joining the likes of Westwood, Poulter, Donald, Jimenez and Molinari all now looking for one of the three Captain's picks on Tuesday.
