Shady? AIG Bypass Pro Shops. Divert Successful Insurance Claims To One Major Golf Retailer
Came across this today from some very unhappy people at the Royal Tara Pro Shop In Ireland. Follow @golfcentraldoc
It concerns the insurance company AIG who apparently have a good share of the golf insurance market in Ireland. No problem there. AIG even sponsor the Golfing Union Of Ireland's "Cups and Shields" competitions in Ireland. Very laudable too. And good for business.
However when a customer has a successful claim things start to get a bit shady.
Recently a Royal Tara Golf Club customer had his clubs stolen from his car and successfully claimed through his AIG golf insurance. However instead of being able to being able to get the clubs resupplied by the Royal Tara Pro Shop where he originally bought them, the insurance company insisted that only one major Dublin based retailer can supply the equipment. The insurance settlement came in the form of a voucher.
The problem is the Royal Tara Pro Shop have quoted the same price as the major golf retailer and the customer has had a "bad experience" with that retailer in the past and would much rather be supplied by his club pro. The insurance company have refused.
The customer also insists there is no mention of a "must" go to store in his insurance policy and suspects this voucher arrangement might be a bit of a "You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" job between the powers that be.
Of course this is only side of the story, and in fairness to the insurance company they have offered to pay out when so many dont. It's not the fault of that major golf retailer either.
It just doesn't seem fair to the customer and the Pro shop that have quoted the same and is the customers preferred supplier. Surely AIG should be supporting the club professionals?
