My Grouping Thoughts: Henley, Westwood, English Could Be THE Group To Watch
There were a few interesting groups to emerge from the 2014 US Masters draw.
Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed, and Rory McIlroy: Will being paired with two rookies help or hinder McIlroy? And how will he gel with the two super confident newcomers? Fingers crossed they all get along.
Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, and Justin Rose: Really the perfect draw for all here. Professional, experienced, respectful, gentlemen of the game.
Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, and Henrik Stenson: This one is interesting to me in that these three men are âgo for itâ golfers. Dayâs gung-ho attitude has served him well recently at Augusta while Johnsonâs wrecklessness has cost him on more than one occasion in the Majors. Throw Henrik into the mix and ratchet that intensity level into the danger zone.

Bubba Watson, Luke Donald, and Sergio Garcia: The driver, the ball striker and the short game expert. This threeball certainly is a clash of styles, but will favour Sergio who isnât likely this time around to be getting angry with his partners. He gets on great with both Luke and Bubba. Itâs a happy pairing, and that could spur them on to good golf.
Adam Scott, Jason Dufner, and Matthew Fitzpatrick: Sure to be huge media scrutiny on Scott and young Matt Fitzpatrick. Jason Dufner can go under the radar here.
Charl Schwartzel, Jim Furyk, and Thorbjorn Olesen: This is a fantastic draw for Thor who played so well last year yet finds himself cut adrift at 125/1 in the betting. Schwartzel the former champion and Furyk the course manager give the young Dane the ideal partners in the opening rounds.
Russell Henley, Harris English, and Lee Westwood: Now I think there has been word in the ear somewhere that got home boy Harris English paired with Lee Westwood in the final group on Thursday. Lee may not have played his best yet this season, but he is as experienced as any player in this field with three top 10âs in his last four appearances (the other was 11th!). Both men also have similar games too as fans of the St Jude Classic will know very well. Chuck in recent winner Russell Henley and you have THE group I for one will certainly be watching.
