2014 Zurich Classic Of New Orleans Betting Tips and Expert Picks

Zurich Classic of New Orleans
Purse: $6,800,000 • Winning Share: $1,224,000 • FedExCup Points: 500
TPC Louisiana • Avondale, LA

Last week: Luke Donald finished second at 25/1

Rickie Fowler  18/1

Has to be in line for another win soon and with this year’s Zurich Classic devoid of real star quality an excellent opportunity exists this week for Fowler.  Sixth in Houston and tied for fifth last time out in Augusta.  Was in the mix here last year after a good first round but faded.  Best of T10 here in 2012.  Big chance.

Kevin Stadler  35/1

I must say I quite fancy a flutter myself on Kevin Stadler this week.  The ‘Smallrus’ scored a T8 at TPC Louisiana last season and comes here this year with a win in Phoenix and a T8 at The Masters.  Tied 38th last week at Hilton Head.

Justin Rose 12/1

Two top 15’s in his past two visits to New Orleans (T15 2013, T10 2012) make Justin Rose the bookies favourite after all time leading earner at the Zurich Classic opted instead to play in China this week.  After an early season stifled by a shoulder injury Rose has shown signs of a return to form with a T8 at Innisbrook and a T14 at The Masters.  Well within his capabilities to contend on a course where the average winning score over the past four years has been 18 under.

Russell Knox 50/1

Excellent opportunity for the young Scot to contend in his 50th Tour start (49 regular season, 1 major).  Great season so far with a T10 at The Farmers, that brilliant T2 at The Honda and a T9 again last week at The Heritage.  On a cut streak of five events with a worst finish of 43rd which screams consistency.  Russell played here in 2012 in what was then only his 10th Tour start and finished in the top 30 thanks in part to a second round of 64.  He’ll be itching to give it another shot this year.

Long Odds Glory Shots

My long odds glory shots this week  between them have precious little current form but could be dangerous on this layout.
Boo Weekley 75/1  tied sixth last year, 10th in 2010 and T3rd in 2009.  A great ball striker on his day but without enough current form to make the main tips.

Lucas Glover at 120/1 is an enigma.  Will do nothing for months then show up and win.  The Clemson grad lead for three rounds in 2013 and finished T4.  He knows how to play this course well.

Ernie Els at 80/1 is another without current form but always to be respected.  Second to Dufner in 2012 and T15 last year.
