2013 WGC Bridgestone Invitational Betting Preview and Tips

Last week we tipped Brandt Snedeker at 16/1 and Alex Kaleka at 85/1

Tiger Woods 6/1

tiger-woods-lgOkay Tiger didn’t get it done at the British Open with his defensive course management strategy but he’s back in his comfort zone at Firestone. Woods has won here seven times (the last coming in 2009) and with four wins already this season expect him to be in the mix. Tied eighth in 2012.

Adam Scott 22/1

adam-scott-ana-ivanovicA big long baked par 70 with lightning fast greens? Somebody send for Adam Scott! Back to form with a podium finish at the Open Championship, Scott tends to save his best for WGC events. He tied third at the WGC Cadillac back in March on his way to winning his first green jacket in Augusta. The Aussie is also a previous winner at Firestone; he hammered the field here in 2011 winning by four shots.

Lee Westwood 28/1

leeI’m going to be keeping a close on Lee this week and at the US PGA, I think a “W” is coming. Lee notched up five consecutive top-10’s from March to May and returned to top form with a tied third at Muirfield. Tied for second here in 2008 when Vijay Singh edged him by a shot and has two other top 10’s in the last five years.

Rory McIlroy 32/1

roryThis is a very big week for Rory! Okay his travails have been highlighted ad nauseum in the media but I still think he has game. Had the Valero Texas Open turned out a little bit differently I don’t think we would be worried about him. This 7,400 yard par 70 plays right into Rory’s hands and his three top 10’s in the last three years (T9 2010, T6 2011, T5 2012) prove it. Very generous odds of 32/1 with bookies paying extra places make Rors too good to ignore.

Jim Furyk 70/1

jim furyk funny[4]_thumb[2]Jim is not the force he once was but he returned to form with a top 10 at the star studded Canadian Open last week. Dry conditions make this long track manageable for Jim and he has a solid record at the event. Has a recent best of tied sixth in 2010 and tied second last year when overtaken by a flying Keegan Bradley in the final round.

Best Of The Rest

Now in the world’s top 50, Hideki Matsuyama starts his first WGC event this week and at 65/1 he represents decent each way value. Martin Laird (130/1) had a very good ball striking week at Castle Stuart recently and though he faltered in round three of The Open, I think he’s value at those odds. Two top 20 finishes in the last three years.
