2013 Scottish Open Betting Preview, Predictions and Tips
Controversial Castle Stuart hosts the Scottish Open for the final time this week, as many of the field use the opportunity to fine tune their links game ahead of The Open. Here are our top picks this week. Early odds on the exchanges.
Jamie Donaldson 40/1
Jamie is right on his game right now which must leave him very confident ahead of this week and The Open at Muirfield. Since his return from the PGA Tour in April, heâs played great in Sweden (T11), Ireland (T10) and last week in France (T6). One of the best putters on Tour, Iâll be very surprised if the Welshman is not in the mix this week.
Francesco Molinari 28/1
In the top 32 for his last four European Tour events but that wonât be good enough for the amicable Italian. Mixed good and bad in Paris (T18) last week, but judging by his work-rate on the range over the past few weeks, is due a big result. Brought much better form into this event last year when he shot a 62 in round one and eventually just lost out in a playoff to Jeev Milkha Singh.
Marc Warren 50/1
The Scot looks to be coming into form again right in the meat of the season. Followed a T4 at the Open deEspana with a brilliant T2 at the BMW PGA Championship in Wentworth at the end of May and has finished in the top 20 in Carton House and Paris National. Agonizingly missed out on the playoff here last year with back nine bogeys. Warren may not be the straightest batter off the tee, but has the putter to break Castle Stuart.
Stephen Gallacher 50/1
A poor third round in Paris (T8) last week, blotted his copybook a little but I still like Stephen Gallacher at home this week. Only missed one cut since winning so impressively in Dubai at the start of the season. Gallacher was a perennial high finisher at this tournamentâs old home Loch Lomond, but has pedigree on links too.
Richard Green 80/1
One of the nicest guys on Tour, it gives me great pleasure to tip Greeny this week. The Aussie petrol-head drove it arrow straight and putted his way to his best finish of the year (T6) at Paris last week. Hopefully Richard has discovered âthe answerâ and can bring that form to Inverness this week.
Best Of The Rest
The Castle Stuart Links is criticized by many but should suit both Soren Kjeldsen 60/1 and Shane Lowry 33/1. The Swede spent a lot money on the final hole in Paris but still managed a top 10; he shot two low rounds here last year on his way to a top five finish. Shane returns after a week off to a course on which his putter will be a huge advantage. He has been just outside the top 10 on both his Castle Stuart appearances.
