CIMB Classic Betting Preview, Tips And Predictions. 2014 PGA Tour Schedule

Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club

Kiradech Aphibarnrat 35/1

barn ratRegular readers of my tips will remember we have done very well in the past with Kiradech Aphibarnrat on this course at the Maybank Malaysian Open.  Tied third in 2010 and winner in March this year, the Barn Rat will go under the radar of the PGA Tour analysts. The Asian Order Of Merit leader will have no problem adapting to the conditions this week and must have a huge advantage given his course knowledge.

Scott Hend 60/1

hendScott has played a good number of events in Europe this season with a best of a tied sixth at the Avantha Masters back in March. It’s in Asia that he’s really shining however with two wins in the month of October already. Took the Taiwan Masters titles three weeks ago and the Venetian Macau Open last Sunday in a field which included Ernie Els.   . Knows the course inside out having played it at the Maybank Malaysian Open on the European Tour for the past four years and in fact his last round here was a 66 to vault up to T11 in the 2012 staging. Has the chance to overtake Kiradech Aphibarnrat with a good performance with week. Tip of the week; shh don’t tell the bookies!

Hideki Matsuyama 14/1

hidekiHideki is set to be a PGA Tour sensation. Started the season with a T3 at the Frys but had to withdraw from The Shriners through illness. Every cloud has a silver lining however and I expect Hideki to be rested and adjusted to the time zone in good time for his first appearance at the CIMB Classic. Has a busy Winter playing schedule ahead having committed to several events in Japan.

Ernie Els 28/1

ernieErnie is out at 28/1 for this event and to be honest I think those odds are very generous. The South African is looking for his ninth off season (October to December) win in the last 10 years in Malaysia this week. Played much better than his T17 suggested at The Dunhill a few weeks back (poor final round) and warmed up with an impressive tied third in Macau last week. Tied fifth on the Mines course in 2010.

Jeff Overton 50/1

Overton funny[6]Jeff Overton got a last minute call up to the CIMB Classic after Jason Kokrak pulled out of the 78-man, no-cut event in Kuala Lumpur. The American has started the season brightly with a top 20 at the Frys and a T9 last week at The Shriners. A regular visitor to Malaysia, Jeff tied 16th at The Mines course last year and finished solo second behind Bo Van Pelt in 2011. Generous odds so, for a man with several very important boxes ticked.

Best Of The Rest

On a cut streak dating back to the US Open Ryan Moore 25/1 is playing very consistent golf of late. Just out of the top 10 at the BMW Championship and returned to Vegas with a T9 last week. Tied fifth on The Mines course in 2010.

Keep an eye out for the progress of Anirban Lahiri from 150/1.
