2013 BMW Masters Betting Preview, Predictions And Tips. European Tour

BMW Masters presented by SRE Group, Lake Malaren Golf Club, Shanghai, China 24 Oct 2013 - 27 Oct 2013

Shane Lowry 35/1

lowryWhen Shane says he’s hitting it great I believe him. Went in to the Portugal Masters a couple of weeks back as defending champion and was grinding hard to put on a show for family, friends and organizers but it just didn’t happen. However this week in Shanghai that weight of expectation will be lifted and Shane can play free. Two top 10’s in his last four starts includes that T3 at the Dunhill and with a solo fifth here in 2012 even after a poor start, there’s sure to be educated each money for the Offaly man this week. Long trip for that combi van!

Jamie Donaldson 60/1

jamieI think Jamie could have a big week in Shanghai. His tied sixth in Portugal included a 65 and 66 and he finished only three back of David Lynn. The 2012 Irish Open winner has had a very solid season since the BMW PGA Championship late in May, clocking up nine top 40 finishes with only one missed cut in Switzerland. Stormed out of the blocks with an opening round of 62 in Lake Malaren last year and though it didn’t pan out then is my dark horse for the week.

Ian Poulter 25/1

poultsIan Poulter’s season will be defined by an excellent performance at the Open and a brief cameo at the Deutsche Bank (T9) but I love him in Asia. He won the Hong Kong Open in 2010, and the WGC HSBC Champions in 2012 both late in the season. His final round 65 to tie fourth here in 2012 was the best final round of any of the top 10 and he also finished sixth on the course in 2011. Don’t count Poults out.

Bernd Wiesberger 30/1

Hard to believe the young Austrian has already passed the 100 mark of European Tour starts (103rd) this week. Wiesberger may not have won this season but his powerful style has a way of dominating big golf courses and he has clocked up five top-5 finishes at his ease in 2013 including last time out in Portugal. Tied for 40th on his first look last year, I expect a better showing this time around.

Ross Fisher 25/1

Ross has been like our personal ATM for the past few weeks of these betting tips and he did it again for us in Perth with a solo second after losing out in a playoff. That’s four top eight finishes in his last five starts for Ross and though fatigue could be a factor, he’s the form dog of the field.

Best Of The Rest

Rory McIlroy 10/1 won the 2011 Lake Malaren Shanghai Masters and finished second to Peter Hanson in 2012 and what better way to shut his knockers up than to do it on the golf course this week. Also a late season winner in Hong Kong last year, Rors is acclimatized and will take heart from a good tied second at the Kolon Open in Korea last week. There will a huge media scrum around McIlroy in Shanghai and with GMac and Conor Ridge both in attendance let’s hope things run smoothly for all concerned.

David Lynn 35/1 flies out to Shanghai after his 40th birthday party and he’s in the form of his life having won in Portugal. This could be the perfect tonic. T20 last year. Justin Walters 150/1 is first alternate this week; wait to see if he gets in, he’s sure to be long odds but worth watching after his amazing Portugal performance.
