Stacy Lewis Row Crosses Atlantic. Branded “Ugly American†By UK Writer
Whatever you think of Stacy Lewis’ reaction on twitter to being beaten by a flukey shot by Shanshan Feng in China at the weekend (see the video and comments here) , a piece today about the incident in a leading English newspaper seems incredibly harsh and hurtful on a more personal level to Lewis.

The Ricoh Women’s British Open champion let herself down badly in China on Sunday with a series of pitiful tweets after losing to local favourite Shanshan Feng, who had the temerity to eagle the last to win by one.Personally, I thought Shanshan’s shot was brave, clutch and almost perfect. Yes, she got a flukey kind hop but I feel she deserved it having weighed up what was at stake and gone for glory. Yes, Stacy Lewis was out of order on Twitter. But no, there’s no way in the world she deserves to be branded the “ugly American.†Bang out of order if you ask me.
Talk about playing the ugly American. Lewis whined about the crowd and then bleated about Feng’s luck. ‘You’d like to win on a good shot, but obviously it wasn’t a good shot,’ she said, referring to Feng’s approach on the final hole that carried a water hazard by inches and then hit the flag.
Hours later, the 28-year-old piled petulance on top of ingratitude and lack of sportsmanship by signing off on Twitter with the words: ‘I’m sorry I say what I believe.’
