Joost Luiten Goes Across World To Hit One Shot And Fulfil Stupid European Tour Rule
Joost Luiten may have looked like the bad guy at the BMW Masters by hitting one shot, then withdrawing and depriving the first alternate a spot in the field; until you hear the utterly stupid European Tour rule that forced him to do so.
The injured Dutchman had to travel across the world to China to hit one shot and âofficiallyâ say he competed in the BMW Masters; part of the rules to keep in the inaugural Final Series for the Race to Dubai.
According to the European Tourâs new rules, in order to play in DP World Tour Championship in Dubai; players must participate in at least two of the three events before it. Notwithstanding the fact Luiten is already a winner on Tour this season, one of those three âmust participateâ events is the WGC-HSBC Champions which has a very limited field. That leaves several players with absolutely no choice but to play in the BMW Masters and Turkish Airlines Open to be eligible for the final.
So Luiten hit one shot and pulled out, ticking the box that says be competed.
That left an angry first alternate Justin Walters who played so well in Portugal two weeks ago shaking his head in disbelief at the realization he wasnât to play after a wasted journey. it also left Luke Donald, Luitenâs scripted playing partner heading up the first fairway on his own.
Not surprisingly Donald took to twitter to comment on the bizarre events.
