2013 HP Byron Nelson Championship Betting Tips, Preview and Power Rankings
The Course
The HP Byron Nelson is played at TPC Four Seasons Resort in Irving Texas. At 7,166-yards this par 70 ranks annually as one of the toughest on Tour. Last year Jason Dufner got it to 11 under but when the wind blows, as it did in 2011, scoring is extremely tough. Keegan Bradleyâs winning score then was three under par. TPC Four Seasons almost always ranks inside the top 10 in difficulty off the tee. Careful course managers with hot putters will do well.
Ryan Palmer 36/1
Palmer enjoyed solid results in Texas (T15) and Louisiana (T32) and performed admirably with a tied fifth at Sawgrass though playing with a heavy heart after the death of a childhood friend. Opened with a 64 last year and tied ninth. Got into in a playoff with Keegan Bradley in 2011 when three under was the winning score.
Matt Kuchar 24/1
A Saturday 75 and a visit to the water on 17 in the final round ensured Matt Kuchar would keep up the tradition of no player ever defending The Players Championship but thereâs no ignoring his three top 10âs along with his WGC Accenture win already this season. Tied 15th here last year and sixth in 2011. Should do better without the media commitments and spotlight this week.
Jason Day 16/1
The Aussie is closing in on his 100th regular season start and returns to Irving this week, the site of his only Tour win, back in 2010. Third on his own at The Masters, Day has maintained solid form since. A 68 last Sunday at Sawgrass got him into a tie for 19th. Since his victory in 2010, Day has come fifth in 2011 and tied ninth in 2012 with combined earnings of $1.58 million.
Marc Leishman 30/1
Big Marc is knocking on the door of another Tour win to add to his 2012 Travelers title. Has three consecutive top 10âs at The Masters (T4), The RBC Heritage (T9) and last week at The Players (T8). He also has course form with three top 15âs in the last four years, with a best of tied third last season when he finished two shots behind Jason Dufner.
Ben Crane 48/1
We know heâs a character but Ben Craneâs form is notoriously difficult to predict having not strung together two top 10âs since January 2012. Tied fourth in Houston at the end of March and notched up a good tied eighth at The Players last week. Could this week be Benâs fifth Tour victory? Hopefully!
