Portugal Masters Betting Preview And Tips

Tommy Fleetwood has been in super form of late and he added another T2 in St Andrews last Sunday to his T2 in Wales bringing his total to four top-5 finishes in his last six events.  That sees Tommy climb up to 16th in the Race To Dubai with over €1.5 million in earnings.  Tied 26th last season.  Justifiable favourite at 12/1 with most bookmakers.

Doc’s Top 5 To Watch

Bernd Wiesberger 16/1

The big Austrian has racked up top 15 finishes in his last four events and is peppering too many pins not to get a win soon.  Bernd needs one good putting week and where better than on the Victoria course where he tied sixth in putts per round in 2013.  That led to a T3 finish 12 months ago, to add to his solo fourth in 2012.  My tip of the week.

Eddie Pepperell 40/1

This time last season Eddie was not playing so well; he came to Portugal having missed two cuts from three but off a decent Alfred Dunhill and recorded a T26 including a Sunday 64.  The reason I tell you all that is that this year Eddie comes to Villamoura with four top five finishes in his last six starts including Holland, Wales, Czech and Denmark.  I think he can have a great week here.

Shane Lowry 16/1

Another T6 in the Alfred Dunhill to add to his T2 in Wales are all part of Shane’s amazing run of form dating back to the BMW International Open which has yielded six top-15 finishes in eight starts.  The Clara man will be comfortable in the surroundings this week with big Irish connections in Oceanico and lots of ex-pat support and he can draw from those fantastic memories from 2012 when he won here.

Danny Willett 33/1

Danny’s T5 performance in Crans Montana (fairly recently) really impressed me and though he didn’t really feature in Wales or make last Sunday in St Andrews I still think he’ll have big week in Portugal.  Tied sixth twice in the past here, in 2012 and 2009.

Robert Karlsson 30/1

It has been four years since Robert won the 2010 Dubai World Championship but 2014 has been a good season so far with four top 10’s including at home in Sweden, France and in Scotland before The Open.  A T14 too last week at the home of golf where he won in 2008 see him in good form heading to Portgual where he has a recent best of T2 in 2010 and T3 in 2008.

Long Odds Glory Shot

Ross Fisher 50/1
My long odds shots have been doing pretty good this season and I have fingers crossed for Ross Fisher.  Yes he has missed five cuts in his last eight starts but showed well in Ireland (T8) and Italy (T7) and given the right course remains a force.  Clearly loves the Victoria course having scored a T8 in 2013, solo 2nd behind Shane in 2012 and T3 in 2008.
