2013 World Cup Of Golf Team and Outright Betting Preview And Tips
Australia 6/4
Jason Day (7/1 in the outright betting) has said he will play in this weekâs World Cup of Golf despite losing eight family members in Typhoon Haiyan last week. Itâs impossible to know if such a tragic loss will boost or hinder Days performance with Adam Scott (3/1 outright) this week, but on paper the home pair are unbeatable. Scott is after coming off back to back wins at the Aussie PGA and Talisker Australian Masters which was hosted on the very same course Royal Melbourne as will be used this week. Day had another strong Major season finishing third at The Masters, T2 at the US Open and T8 at the US PGA; he also finished the PGA Tour season very strongly with three consecutive top 15âs in the final three Fed Ex Cup playoff events coming closest to a win at The Barclays (T4). Both Scott and Day can draw on the experience of having played the 2011 Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne.
USA 13/2
Matt Kuchar (6/1 outright) wont have the problem of jet lag this week, but may be slightly sickened in the knowledge that he would have won the Aussie Masters at Royal Melbourne last week were it not for a horribly bad break on the final hole which saw him unavoidably drop two shots. This week he teams up with Kevin Streelman who won the Tampa Bay Championship in March and hasnât missed a cut in ten worldwide starts since the Travelers in late June. Matt Kuchar teamed up with Gary Woodland to win in Hainan Island China in 2011 and has played the Presidentâs Cup at the venue.
Japan 33/1
If you are looking for a longer odds shots for the World Cup, consider the Japanese team who like Australia, bring two in form players together. Hideto Tanihara (150/1 outright) , claimed his tenth Japan Golf Tour title the day after his 35th birthday with a victory at the Mitsui Sumitomo Visa Taiheiyo Masters. He edged out his teammate Ryo Ishikawa (40/1 outright) by one shot. Ishikawa himself scored a very impressive tied second at the Shriners last month, making the pair a very attractive bet.
Sweden 12/1
Donât count out Peter Hanson (28/1 outright) and Jonas Blixt (33/1 outright) this week. Hanson has been much improved lately with a good showing at Lake Malaren (T8) and another top 10 at the Tour Championship in Dubai. Blixt won the Greenbrier on the PGA Tour this year and was T12 in Dubai last week. Like the Irish pairing of Shane Lowry and Graeme McDowell who also played in Dubai, jet lag could have a huge bearing on their performance but just odds still seem pretty decent.
