2013 DP World Tour Championship Betting Preview Tips and Predictions
DP WORLD TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP, DUBAI, Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Ian Poulter 15/1
Of the favourites including Stenson and Rose Iâm picking Poults for the Tour Championship. Having a brilliant end to his season with four top15âs in his last five starts. Followed a solo second at the WGC HSBC Champions with a T5 in Turkey last week where he could not buy a putt during his final round. Confident enough to place a 100 quid Race To Dubai side bet with Henrik Stenson last week, Poults, now in fourth, can walk away with all the cash if he continues his good form this week. Contested (and lost) that epic playoff with Robert Karlsson in 2010 so knows his way around here better than most.
Rory McIlroy 8/1
The horse for the Earth Course but this year wearing a different ownerâs colours. Youâd be forgiven for thinking that the numbers 3,5,T11,1 are the formline of a racehorse but they are actually the Holywood thoroughbredâs finishes here since the tournamentâs inception in 2009. Things are a lot different for Rory this year however with the Jumeirah Resorts (course owners) sponsorship deal now finished, Nike instead of Titleist clubs and a poor season under his belt.
Iâm a fan though and saw enough in his T6 at the WGC event in Shanghai and recent improvement in his driving to think that Rors can contend this week.
Peter Uihlein 55/1
Iâm working on the logic that long hitters who can play in the wind do well here when picking Peter Uihlein. The American, like Alvaro Quiros who has done well here in the past, hits it a country mile which should be a big advantage. Peter should also be able to handle the desert winds which kick up in the afternoon having won in Madeira and contended on the links in Scotland. Played well also recently at the BMW Masters in Shanghai tying fifth. Hopefully this wont be the last weâll see of him on the European Tour.
Jamie Donaldson 30/1
Jamie is holing putts from off the planet at the moment and has to be worth an each way look in Dubai this week. Got a hole in one on the back nine in Turkey last week on his way to a final round of 63 and solo second. I make that three top 10âs in his last four starts including the T8 at the WGC HSBC and his T6 in Wales. Shot four rounds in the sixties here last year on his way to a T9.
Bernd Wiesberger 40/1
Itâs tournament number 110 for the big Austrian and his second Tour Championship. Granted, he didnât set the world alight on his first visit (T42) but comes in this season a different animal. Four consecutive top 20 finishes include a close shave at the Portugal Masters (T3) and a final round of 64 in Turkey last Sunday for a T7.
Long Odds Shots
Peter Hanson 45/1
Still on the comeback trail Peter Hanson will go under the radar for many this week. His exploits at the BMW Masters where he tied eighth after carding a first round of 79 were extraordinary and his T21 at the WGC HSBC was also solid. Hanson has played in every Tour Championship since 2009 on the Earth Course and has never finished worse than 16th with a best of fourth in 2011. Each way possibilities.
Marc Warren 160/1
If you want a real outsider this week try Marc Warren. He shot 66, 65 at the weekend in Turkey to tie seventh which represents a huge turnaround from missing five cuts in his previous seven events. I recall he also started very strongly here last year.
Fall from Grace
Luke Donald 32/1 deserves a mention here. Not so very long ago the Englishman was creating history by winning both major Tourâs money titles here but this year it just hasnât happened. He still retains one of the best recent records of the field however with his T3 in 2012, 3rd in 2011 and T9 in 2010 but hasnât broken 70 in his last two events.
