2013 Wells Fargo Championship Betting Preview and Tips
Quail Hollow Club, Charlotte, NC, Purse: $6,700,000
The Course
For the second consecutive time in 10 years, Quail Hollow Club averaged under par in 2012, erasing its reputation as one of the toughest par 72âs on Tour.
Holes 16, 17 and 18, two par fours with a par three sandwiched in the middle, is known as the Green Mile and is traditionally the toughest stretch on the course.
Great putting has defined the winners week on this 7,469-yard track, with Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler both supreme on the greens in winning here. The venue has its problems with the surfaces this year however , having to take the unprecedented measure of re-laying two entire greens last week.
D.A. Points 36/1
After an early season run of seven missed cuts in eight events, D.A Points has been reborn with a win in the Shell Houston Open and a solo second again last week at the Zurich Classic where he closed with a 65. Points made into a three man playoff with Rickie Fowler and Rory McIlroy here last year, which Fowler won.
Nick Watney 27/1
Top 30 finishes in his last three events including tied 13th at The Masters after a first round of 78. Shot four rounds in the 60âs for the first time this season in Louisiana last week on his way to a tie for 15th. Eighth last season.
Lucas Glover 55/1
How do you nail down Lucas Glover with ten missed cuts in 2012 and already four this season. However he did play great at the Zurich Classic last week to score a solo fourth and returns to the site of his 2011 win this week. Also tied second in 2009.
Rickie Fowler 25/1
Three top 10âs this season for Fowler including a tied third at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and a good course performer. In three starts at Quail Hollow Fowler has finished sixth in 2010, T16 in 2011 and won here last year.
Jimmy Walker 50/1
It has been a fantastic season so far for Jimmy Walker. His tied eighth finish last week at the Zurich Classic make it four top 10âs for the season to date. Walker has been even or under par for his last 15 tournaments and hasnât missed a cut since July last year. No real course form but Walkerâs steady play should see him contend again this week.
