Pablo Larrazabal 20/1
What a character to watch when heâs in good form is Pablo! Heâs probably wishing the Masters break hadnât come as it broke his streak of top 20 results. Since his 17th at the Avantha Masters, the Spaniard improved to 6th in Malaysia then scored a solo fourth last time out at the Trophee Hassan. He tied second in the Open de Espana in Seville in 2012 and tied third in 2011 and though the event has moved to Parador de El Saler, I think Pablo will put in a good showing.
Matteo Manassero 20/1
Without even showing up on the radar Matteo has been rock steady worldwide this year and would you believe the Masters was his first missed cut. From Africa to the Emirates to Florida and to Malaysia, Matteo has posted top 30 finishes in them all. I do remember he won in Castellon in 2010 and in mid April in 2011 on a short course in Kuala Lumpur and since Iâm a big believer in cycles of form, I fancy Matteo.
Rafa Cabrera Bello 33/1
Has to be stung after a missed cut last time out in Morocco. Rafa is a far better player than his recent form suggests with only one top 10 at the Volvo Golf Champions back in January. This time last season Rafa was contending in Malaysia. Maybe see where he lies after two rounds if youâre not convinced.
David Horsey 25/1
It has been a couple of years since David Horsey last won on Tour but lately heâs been looking very much like adding a third. Sixth at the Avantha Masters was followed with a tied second at the Trophee Hassan, the scene of his last win. Top 10âd in El Prat (2011) and Catalunya (2009) in previous Opens de Espana. Solid team with Chris Rice on the bag.
Victor Dubuisson 33/1
Itâs the Frenchmanâs 57th tournament this week and heâs getting a reputation as a resilient performer. Nine of last 13 rounds on the European Tour have been in the 60âs, netting him three top 10âs in his last four starts. With a best of tied fourth in the weather affected Malaysian Open, Victor deserves respect.
Best Of The Rest
After missing his last two cuts, I note Simon Dyson is out at big odds of 80/1 with Ladbrokes. Heâll surely have worked hard during the break and my spy in Spain says heâs looking good on the range. Can this week mark a turnaround in fortunes for Simon? Hopefully yes.
Soren Kjeldsen is a good player on the shorter courses. Keep a sneaky little eye on him also at 80/1.
